trade for a 98 cobra?
so i found a cobra that i was considering trading my 03gt for.
his mods, long tubes, pulleys, hurst short-throw, and 3.73's. my main question is what kind of times would this car be running?? dont wanna go out there and trade all my elbow grease for a slower car that has a lower resale value than mine. thanks for any helf guys.

i wouldnt trade man. Its not gonna blow the doors off your gt..your proably 5 tenths of a second slower than that thing you would run 13.3 that would run 12.9. Just a guesstimate. Temps, driver, tires, elevation, track prep all play a role. IMO your wasting your time to pick up a couple tenths and get a older car worth less money. If you really love that body style and he throws you some cash then maybe it might be worth it, Otherwise keep what you got and build it bro!
i ran a 12.36 in my supercharged modded 99 4v cobra (mods in sigs) im not that great of a driver so lets say it runs a 11.9 by the right person and on the right conds. My full bolt on geared 2v gt ran a 13.2. Really not worth trading. BUILD IT!!! |

i would only do it if the body, paint, engine, tranny were up to par cuz obviously the 4v platform, even if its the 98 version, in MO would be better than the 2v.
i like our body style better and i wouldnt let it go for a 98 with those mods, even if it is a cobra, but thats just me though ![]() its a tough choice you got any pics of the cobra??

yeah the paint is really good. sonic blue with white racing stripes. good clean motor too. but i just talked to lidio at alternative auto performnace and he said he would give me an amazing deal on cower cams, torque conv, and a tune. so i think im going to go ahead and do that instead of trading her away=] thanks guys!

if he's going to do the install on the cams and torque conv (if you have an automatic) and tune it afterwards it'll probably run you around 1500+. but if you do the work and just have him tune it, his dyno runs around $550 an hour. gotta call as well, takes about 2 weeks to get you car in.

i personally would take the 97-98 cobra anyday before a 2v. that's only because i love those years (cobra's only).
on to your tune....550 an hour. holy christ that's rediculously expensive. |

I just can't get past the looks on that model/year. Aside from that, I still wouldn't do the trade. Save some $ and get a newer cobra. Trust me, they come around in good deals once in a while.

Trust me on this. I did exactly what you're looking to do. I bought a 96cobra with the intention to sell my 03 GT that'd I'd had since 30k miles. All I could see were the Cobra badges.
Cobra turned out to be a huge disappointment. In my experience time IS NOT good to these cars. I spent so much time and money fixing stupid issues, like cooling in the 96s, and never really got to enjoy the car. After the new wore off I found myself wanting the new edge GT back, they really are better cars. BTW, when I sold the cobra fixed up nice, I got a fraction of what my DD lightly modded GT sold for. Keep the new edge, you'll regret digressing in the long run.
