Starter or clutch safety switch

First let me say I am new to this forum and very happy to have the Mustang fever. In March I saved a 96 Cobra from a kid that didn't appreciate what a fine and beautiful car he had. Thankfully with 151k on engine it wasn't ragged out. Can't say same for the interior I completely restored. Anyway, I have been around/worked on cars in some compacity for nearly 35 years but want input on a current problem. I think it is a starter issue eventhough Autozone says starter is fine. Problem mostly shows up when car is hot but has done it when cold. I get in, push clutch in, turn key, and "click". I can keep turning the key from off to start and eventually the clicking will stop and the car will start. I know there is a safety switch on the clutch pedal to prevent car from starting out of gear but don't think this is the problem. I have kept the clutch pushed in while turning key off/on and it does eventually start. Any other ideas I might be overlooking besides starter?

I had a issue like this with my mustang and all i did to figure out it was the starter was tap it with a hummer. try tapping it a few times and then crank it over. If it does crank over fine a few times in a row then you are leaning toward replacing the starter.
