needing info on a swap
I have an 83 mustang that I'm planning on dropping a 98 mark viii motor in. I've seen many forums about this swap, but most of them are from older marks. The 98 has the pats system. How can I bypass that? Can I put the whole wiring harness from the mark 8 into my foxbody? What problems will I encounter? Also will the lincoln k member bolt up to my mustang? Rearend? Any advice on the swap is greatly appreciated.

Where would I get it tuned? Should I do that before pulling the mark motor?

Well you need the whole ECU, harness and everything else with it for the most part.
The tune will have to be done with a handheld or at a dealer

I'm sorry, I'm new to this type thing. What is megasquirt? And would it be easier to just pull a harness and computer from a salvage yard mustang. I am going for budget build. I got the stang for 300 and the mark 8 (whole car) for 800. So as of now I'm tapped out. But I have friends in the salvage buisiness.

MegaSquirt - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia With the swap you are talking about doing your gonna have to have alittle bit bigger budget...As your going to want a different intake and cams for the mark engine...Which isnt cheap...Also your going to want and see if you can find a 96-98 Cobra ECU as it will be easier IMHO to tune and run the mark computer... |

I'm not trying to build a beast. Just something streetable and fairly quick. The donor car has got enough oomph for what I want. That being said. I just need to know if I take the entire wiring harness out of the mark 8, clip off what I don't need ( power seats, mirrors, windows, etc) stick it in the fox body will it run? But the pats thing has me worried.

Iv heard of these swaps but they're never budget swaps.
Not really the cheapest alternative. Just drop a 5.0 in and call it a day

Finding a usable 5.0 around here ain't easy. I looked for almost a year and was offered the mark 8. I do plan on spending more cash on the build later. But I don't know where to start honestly. Will a harness from a mustang run the motor? That's my only real big problem. I'm not an expert wirer. thank y'all for your help, just by the way.

A 96-98 Cobra harness and ECU will run the engine...but your still the same predicament with PATS...
The Mark computer will run it...I just dont know ANYTHING about their computers at all... |

Chris im 99% sure its the same ECU with just a different tune.
Just like every other ecu that runs a 4.6 or a 5.4. Same part with a different tune.
