Nitrous switches

Ok guys I have used nitrous before, but all I have ever used is a WOT switch. And that was on 5.0 motors, now I have this 4.6 and I would like to be a little safer so I have a few questions. I havent read up on nitrous switches much so thought I would ask.

What is a window switch for and how does it work?
How does a rpm switch work ( i suppose on rpms but how does it actually work)?
What do you 4.6 nitrous guys use and what do you advise?

Do I need some sort of ignition box? Always used a msd 6al ignition box (on 5.0) because of the built in soft touch rev limiter, which is better than the stock rev limiter because it cuts back spark instead of fuel.

Well the window switch will allow you to spray in certain RPM windows! Personally a progessive contorller is the way to go, because you can program it to spray from certain rpms in certain gears!

Dude, all you need is a Zex kit 82023 + their traction control window switch. I have them, it's relatively inexpensive and it works great. Around $550 for the 82023 wet kit + about $175 for the window switch. It also allows you to control what gears you spray in. Very simple set up. If you buy them, PM me with any install questions - more than happy to help.

I would get a nitrous express kit, absolutely best kit on the market especially for the mod motors. I found my used with everything i needed for 600 bucks. Mine came with a msd window switch and a tach adapter which is needed if you don't have a digital window switch. I have the 3k and 6k rpm pills in mine so the tach adapter reads my tach signal and sends it to the window switch. And when its between 3k and 6k rpms it sends voltage to my relay, and if the nitrous is armed all it need is the wide open throttle switch voltage and bam nitrous sprays. As you can tell by my times the nitrous works great.

werd! I had the NX kit on my 89gt and loved it. I need a safety switch this go around. I bounced that bitch off the rev limiter and well if you know your mustangs and nitrous you know what happened next. FP dropped and nitrous kept spraying and KABOOM!

Eh, +1!

Lot's of guys love the NX kit so there must be a reason why.

All I want to add is that the Zex kit works well and is very easy to set up.

Yeah the NX is an excellent kit, but the ZEX has my eye right now because I like their solenoid box set up. HMMM.... a zex kit with the NX shark nozzle, thats a good combo.

well the window switch would keep you from hitting the limiter while spraying and the fpss is also a good thing, mine came with it all. Keep your eye out on some other forums like modularfords, modulardepot for some used kits.

The Zex kit has it integral. It senses nitrous pressure and adjusts FP for the spray. Don't know if it works in reverse...

you guys run an external fuel system for your wet kit or just run the fuel solenoid off the fuel rail and install a bigger fuel pump? and did you put an adjustable FPR on the fuel rail?

i just run it off the rail right now but i am working on my stand alone fuel system for it, running a 1 gal RCI fuel cell up front, with a inline pump, low pressure regulator with gauge going to the fuel solonoid. Cause i don't think the rail can handle a 200 shot or more, the lean spike would be thru the roof.

I was going to try my best to get my car in the 9's on nitrous cause it has never been done. But after reading up alot and crunching some numbers i realized it can't be done cause our heads and intake do not flow enough to handle over a 225-250 shot of nitrous. Few have tried and all have failed, holes in pistons lol.

you might be able to get away with it for a 100 shot but i would recommend getting a svt focus pump, or for you since you have return style the a 255lph pump which are freakin cheap
