cia will net more HP but you won't be able to drive through any puddles.

Regarding puddles, it depends on the cold-air setup.

I'd say go CAI over ram-air, CAIs *always* make more power, whereas ram air setups only make power at speed (and it's not much power at normal highway speeds). CAIs are cheaper, and I've yet to see a ram-air that didn't make the air go through a couple 180s to get to your airbox.

rev i think you've got it backwards..... the cold air bends into the fender well and the ram air stays in the engine bay.

what do you mean by ram air? I'm thinking of the Cervini's setup with the two hood scoops.

march performance puts out a cheap ram air kit the hooks up to your existing intak and it goes under the car and air gets forced in

No no when we are talking about a ram air intake.. its a short version of the CAI.. it usually has the filter sitting in the stock location and has new tubing.. Makes some good power.. not as much as some cold air intakes, but a good upgrade.
Your thinking of ram air, like the mach 1 stock setup with a scoop on the hood.. its a diff thing. And I would think that the march kit would get you a little more air but you can build that yourself for like $5 to buy some ducting. Or you would have better luck getting a ram air intake and takeing off your pass side headlight when at the track to get more air forced into the intake.

Someone may be selling that under the product name of "ram air" but a shortened CAI is *NOT* ram air. It's called RAM air because it RAMS the air into your motor. Talking about replacing the intake tubing is entirely different,

At least you can understand why I might be confused on the issue...

If we're talking about a true CAI vs. a Conical filter, I went with the conical because it was a hell of a lot easier to install, and it's a lot easier to just look in, see if my filter needs to be cleaned, and if it does, take it out and clean it. I don't have to go digging into my fender liner anytime I want to check my air filter, plus, the CAIs I was looking at were about $100 more. On top of that, the K&N setup has a heat shield, so most of the air is coming from the fenderwell anyway.

If you're trying to squeeze out every last horsepower, CAI is the only way to go.
