Off Road x pipe.....emissions?
I have a 2005 Mustang GT with an off-road x-pipe with axle back SLP Loudmouths and I have emissions coming up in May. Should I buy a new pipe with cats thats going to cost me $500 or is there a way I can pass with my current set up. any thoughts or advise would be great. thanks

It's going to depend on what kind of a test they do. If it's a simple OBD check for codes and you have the rear O2 sensors turned off then you may be okay. If they include a visual inspection for cats or a tailpipe sniffer, you're not going to pass. The Loudmouths shouldn't affect you unless there's a noise ordinance that applies.

Just throw some dummy cats on it for the visual. I used t swap out my stock pipes before my emissoins test, don't know if you still have them or not.

What are dummy cats? I have never heard of people with them, just gutted cats. I'm looking at an offroad x put need to pass emissions and I want something for the visual inspection.

Do you have a programmer? If so what kind? Are the rear 02 sensors turned off? Do you have a CEL right now?

No advice from me just another question;
dummy cats, could I just take those off my original exhaust and then gut them and attach the shell over the pipe not actually weld it into the pipe itself? Clearly im new at the modifying deal and looking for all the help I can get. |
