2001 Cobra VS Mach 1
so before summer gets here i plan to sell my GT to pick up a cobra or mach. my first intentions were to buy a termi but i just don't have the money right now, and i dont want to take out that much of a loan to buy one.
So now its between a 99-01 cobra or the mach 1. i've been doing a lot of reading online of which is better but it seems they both have their flaws and things that make them better than the other. my intentions for the car is to go fast in a straight line im not really into street racing or worried about how to car corners seeing as it won't be a daily driver. So i guess my question is which car is for me, and which car is better bolt on for bolt on?! oh and when it comes to looks, they both look damn sexy to me so i could care less which one i get as long as it serves my purpose better than the other ![]() any help would be great guys!

Engine-wise, they're quite similar. The Mach has a bit higher compression ratio and makes better low to mid-range torque. More importantly, the Mach has a solid rear axle, which you're going to want if you're serious about drag racing. If you go with a Cobra you'd want the 2001 model since it has 31 spline axles but you'd still be better off building the solid axle in the Mach to put 31 splines into it. Stock, the Cobra has 3.27 gears while the Mach is 3.55. That's kind of a wash because you're going to want to upgrade the gearing anyway. The 2001 Cobra and the Machs have the same transmission so there's no difference there. The Mach has a more aggressive, extroverted look with the shaker. It's subjective whether that's better or not.

mach 1 is the only way to go. if it aint a terminator then a mach 1 is the next best thing.

i have also heard, that with slicks and bolt ons u can run mid 12's in a Mach
VERY impressive considering the following only has 305HP factory while the new 5.0 has 412hp factory and runs high 12's i dont think u will be able to bolt on 107hp so if u can run 12's with less HP than the new 5.0 GOOD ON U! seeing u dont care about cornering ): id say remove front swaybar relocate battery in trunk over right rear wheel 4.10 gears slicks/skinnies short throw shifter aluminum DS

Lot's of good info in this thread. Mach hands down for drag racing. Cobra's with their cougar IRS are not good candidates for drag racing. With a lot of work they can work ok, but a solid axle is a lot easier to launch and hook. It also holds up better. Mach's have more compression, and a steel crank in the manuals. Interior is very cool too. Good luck with the search, that's half the fun.
