Beer tap shift knob?!
I was looking for a new shift knob for my car and I knew someone who had made a beer tap as the knob. But do you think that the threads on the shifter will be the same as the ones on the tap? Or how could I make the threads on the shifter fit the tap? Any help or ideas is appreciated in advance!
Here is the handle that I want

To answer your question, I doubt they will fit. If the hole for the tap is bigger than the shifter handle, you'll have to find an insert from another shifter that would work. It's basically a sleeve with the shifter threads on the inside and the tap threads on the outside. If the tap is smaller than the shifter handle then I'd just drill and tap (make new threads) the tap (beer dispenser)
To be a dick and rain on your parade I don't think a shifter handle like that is the safest thing in the world. It's not going to be nearly as strong as a stock knob since it's significantly longer and I'm sure it's made from some crap plastic, so it'll be more likely to snap off. Plus if you need to shift quickly for some reason I doubt you're going to be able to snag that tap and bang a gear.

I would cut it off at the top of where the wheat stuff ends to make it shorter, then I would get the threads from another shift knob

I'm guessing the point of having the tap is to have the stuff at the top. A wheat bundle as your shift knob would be pretty lame

in a rat rod, yes. in anything else, no. if you're a redneck... wel ok, go ahead and do it. Cut it off at the gold band and install a threaded insert and screw it on.

I'm the farthest thing from a redneck... I just saw one of these on the tap at work and I thought it would be cool

hey man, dont let these guys discourage you from doing it. I dont know why when someone posts threads people tell them they are dumb for thinking of it. Im all about originality. I dont wanna see the same old shit day after day. I got a black pearl shift knob. I never seen it and always get compliments. If you like it do it. I think that would be awesome. and think of it this way when you go to car shows people dont say oooo look at that GT with cobra rims and flowmaster exhaust. NO. They look for the ones that stand out.
To answer your question though dcook had it pretty good answered in the first post. If its smaller then drill and tap. If its bigger then find an insert somwehere online or at a hardware store. Wallaa. Done

i say its a great idea. i seen a mustang at a car show this weekend(i dont have a pic)it had a budweiser tap on it. looked pretty sweet. shifting was probably tricky being it was not chopped. it was the full length beer tap.

It's not my style but it's not my car either. I would love to see some pics posted up when you get it on there though.

![]() Sorry I hadn't updated in a little while but I got the handle for free from work, and then I drilled out a hole in the bottom after I cut it and it screwed on. Some of you thought the plastic was going to be strong enough but its very hard, like it was more difficult to drill into this then it would be with wood. I'm happy with the results but I might go back and trim it up a little more.

don't get me wrong man, I dig it - just not in your car. maybe if you shorten it up to just the head it may look less obscure.

I wish I could shorten it, but there is a metal rod in it that I hit when I was drilling, that little rod holds the head on to the whole thing

While I wouldn't do it on my car, I smile when I see it. I think it's a fun unique thing, more power to ya man.

How does it do when you're banging gears with it? Looks harder than fuck to get a good grip on.
