5.0 Swap?

I was wondering if there were any guys here that had 2 valve 4.6 engines that switched to the push rod 5.0. I was wondering what the possible power could be and the potential vs the modular 4.6. My friends and I are discussing this exact thing. They have 5.0 Foxes and with a couple of power adders (Cam Intake manifold and bolts ons) they are running ALOT more power then I am. I have all the Bolt ons for my 4.6 and they are trying to convince me to switch to a 5.0. They claim its alot cheaper to make power and that it will have far more potential. Whadya you guys think?

Perhaps I posted in the wrong spot, but I figured you all would know your 4.6's...

Just get a power adder for your car. There's WAY more work than could ever be worth it to go pushrod on these cars. If you're really die hard for it get a fox.

I'm in the middle of a 351w build in my 2000.. My buddies bro did a 5.0 in a 1999... Really not a lot of work if you think about it... Mine is going to be carb'd but he did efi and had no problems... Besides him using a 4.6 k member and made custom mounts.

There will be a 4.6 vs 5.0 argument but here it is..

-you already have a 4.6
-it is cheaper to make a 5.0 fast
-you will need a new k member and other stuff

So either way you are looking into spending money.

All the parts you need will be in a 94-95 stang GT.. It is essentially the same body so if you can do a trade with somebody you already have the swap there.

Beat me to it. Yup, the 94 and 95 Gt are stock with a pushrod 5.0 motor. You could probably sell your car and buy a 94/95 and get some extra cash out of the deal to mod it up.

Truth is I am not die hard for the 5.0. Honestly I really like my 4.6. She pulls hard, but she does lack a bit in the torque area. And about getting a 94-95 Sn95 I love my car... She has alot already done to her. The issue came in when my friends insisted I needed a 5.0 but honestly i'd like to supercharge her and then wait till she needs to be rebuilt. Keep the stock block and use trickflow heads, cam and intake manifold and of course use forged internals (With deeper dish pistons to lower compression) and to finish with the supercharger. But lets just say they don't agree with me, so I was trying to get opinions.

People that have no idea think that the 5.0 was the best thing that ever happened to a Mustang. They are only disagreeing with you because they are uneducated. I say SC it and then take them for a ride, and make them shit themselves. They will leave you alone then.

Suggestion for a supercharger that I don't have to build the bottom end for? And that won't put me into bankruptcy? Because ive looked at sc and honestly most places stopped making it for the 96-98 GTs

I personally like the sound of a nice build Windsor motor. As for supercharging the 4.6 I would look into a used Procharger setup. You should be able to piece a kit together rather cheap. Also look into turbo setups.

turbo is where it's at! U cud piece together a kit pretty easily or u cud buy a cheap kit (on3performance) less than $2k+ add fuel injection and gauges and a fuel pump/ boostapump and ur set.

i usually beat the 5.0's i ran against... in my opionion, 5.0 parts are easier and cheaper to come by becase they are older.Soon 4.6 parts will get cheaper due to the new 3v and the new 5.0 and what not..a guy i know has a 5.0 cougar with about the same bolton's i have and his is a 1992, his 5.0 sounds like it would be better but i beat it everytime, and his 5.0 has a very aggressive cam in it.

Might turn into a real project if you decide to go with a 5.0L. Figure that you would need the k-member, harness, computer....stick with the 4.6L-lol

just do a pi swap, with a cai, full exhaust, tb and upper intake plenum. Or boost. either way you would be making pretty good power.

As a second thought, what about swapping to a 01-04 2 valve 4.6? Horsepower and torque goes up and more is available aftermarket wise to that engine because alot of companies only make things to fit the PI System. (Superchargers Trickflow so on)
Thoughts?

That's what I did. Most people think since it's the 96-98 body style that it's gonna be slow til I hand them their ass. It's gonna be even better after I get the turbo done.

It is expensive to build a bottom end for a 4.6, so go with a turbo/nitrous/sc to keep you right at 425 at the wheels. Depending on suspension/tire setup, that could get you in the 11's.
