I did an economy drive once in my car on Interstate 10. Windows up, a/c off, steady 55-60mph cruise, (cough) 3.08 gears (cough), and it did 33 mpg. I haven't touched it since, but I consistently get 26-27 mpg highway with my 3.90's.
I have a PI engine with pretty much every bolt-on, full exhaust and ported heads. Around town I don't get shit because I like to go through the gears. Hell I'd get shitty gas mileage in a Prius! Gas mileage has a ton to do with HOW you drive. A 5.0 with the same mods would not come close to 30mpg if you were trying. |

YOu said earlier you disagree that modulars are easier to work on...but you you just said the 5.0 modular is 'easy' to modify... Which is it. And the new 5.0 is nothing like the the old 5.0 as stated above. Infact there is NOTHING the same in them...only thing they share is the '5', the '.' and the '0'. And they even changed those. All the new 5.0 is, is a revised better version of the already old 4.6/5.4 modular design. Take a look back, they have been improving the 4.6/5.4 since it came out. Iron Block NPI Iron Block PI Alum block PI (explorers) Alum 32v B motor Then 32v C motor Alum 32V C motor Then 3v heads to replace 2V etc etc then enter the 5.0.

Anyway...I still find the 5.0 as an inferior design. Take the factory stock class...whos is tearing that class up. Pushrods or Modulars? I believe for YEARs the 5.0 guys were stuck in the 11s...over and over. Then up comes Shawn Johnson and a few others running 10s the first season. Hmmmm...

With my Aviator cammed combo, with 4.30s, I got 24mpg running 75-80mph on my way to dallas air port. With my Big bore combo in the same car running 4.56s I got 23ish on my way to Wichita Falls. Modulars are more effiecent, weigh less, more stable valvetrain, 'squared'....its just a plain old better design. If it wasn't...they would have 'fielded' it in the Crown Vics and then left it alone and stayed with the pushrod...buuuuut...they didn't.

^ I did. And I quoted you. Need me to go back over and quote you a few more times?
Also to note. Saying a 4.6 is harder to work on when compared to your 5.0...how can you even state that considering you only have a few bolts ons. CAI, and some exhaust? For the most part, the mods you have done, 4.6 or old 5.0, its the same skill level. lol. Go be a tool some place else. YOu obviously have no idea what you are talking about.

^ Enlighten me?
How many modulars you built from the ground up? Cam installs? Motor installs? How many on a new 5.0? How many on an OLD 5.0?

I've worked on 4.6. And 5.0's. Heads, intake, headers, injectors, helped with some turbos, plugs, wires, shocks, springs, pullies. And I think that's it. All and all. The 5.0 was easier. And yes, the list includes both 4.6 and 5.0. So stop with the dickish attitude.

^ I don't have one. How can you tell that in a message forum? I was asking a question. You came off with your comment about 4.6s being harder and not as good as a 5.0 pushrod. Im simply stating the opposite.
You a part of MWS there in Omaha/Bellevue?

No worries. I've been told before I come off a bit opinionated or strong at times. No harm no foul.
Who's the prez there these days? Keith still? White GT vert... Been a while since I've been up that way.
