Obviously I am biased here. Having driven a 96 cobra and put it through it's paces I have to say you can have just as much fun with a gt with the difference in price going to good mods. Don't get me wrong, you can definately tell when the secondaries open up on the 4 valve but I honestly was not impressed with it.
Of course, I am used to driving a fully built /blown saleen so....

Didn't read this whole thread, just the first pageish
To OP: Either body style looks GREAT IMO. Lots of exterior mods for either to make them look even better ! Looks really are a personal choice, which ever you like best. As far as engines and power ... well thats very ... hmm find the words ? To many people look at the 5.0's power ratings and frown. The 96-98 non PI 4.6 isn't much. But honestly the 99-04 PI 4.6 isn't either. Not many people have succesfully made a true power house out of the 2v 4.6. but I will say one thing, they sound Fing sweet !!!! If you got a 96-98, I promise it wouldn't be very hard to find PI swap material, I see it all the time for sale. Modding is expensive any way you go, and its best if you can do the work yourself. And personally, Id like working on the OHV motor more then the OHC motors. (5.0 vs 4.6 mod motor) People are defiantely right about the 5.0, good performance parts are EVERYWHERE for them. An OHV motor really isn't that hard to work on either. Probably easier compared to a mod motor. A decent cam, GT40 heads, exhuast, and youd probably be pretty happy for a "cheap" amount. And hell, A 5.0, you can find so much for that, it wouldn't be hard to buy an extra motor, and build it over time, and have a complete swap ready so you dont have to spend as much time down with your car. If it was me personally, deciding on a 94-98, id get a 94-95 5.0. Ohh and remember, when people look at the 5.0 and its "low" power, remember that its STOCK, then take a look at the modded fox bodies that run that 5.0. Might make you think a bit ![]() LOL This coming from a guy w/ a V6 beating stock 99-04 GT's in atleast the 1/8 :p Never raced on in the 1/4. We'll ignore the illegal stuff. |

My favorite body style would definitely be the 99-04. Got a 01 V6 when I was 17 had it for over 7.5 years till a dickhead slammed into me and totaled it. I got another one tho 2000gt have had it since since March 2001 but the 1st mustang is always the most special. So choose what YOU really like.

i was never a fan of the newer mustangs, i always loved the hatchbacks but since ive owned my car for 4 years and have put a lot of work into it ive come to love it more then a hatchback. it really depends on which body style you like best, 96-98 you can do the pi swap, forged internals and go supercharger if u want real power. 99-04 have the more modern style body and all youd need is a supercharger for more power down the road... IMO, comes down to the body, the money youll be savin on a 96-98 vs 99-04 will just go right back into performance for the engine anyways... my 2 cents

When buying inusrance , cheap is not always the best way to go ,because a insurance company proves it worth when you have an accident or theft.

i own both a 88 Fox GT Vert & a 2001 New Edge GT , IMO the new edge drive better ,but when it comes to compliments \ repsect the fox wins .

Since you're going to turn 16 I say a single one you can afford and also dont think about the price tag on heads and cams LATER ON... in time til after you get Much seatime with whichever one you may go with. But i prefer the 99-04 body fashion personally.rear view mirror

my first stang was when i turned 18 i bought a 96 gt with 60,000 miles, was one owner and red... did a full exhaust right away and 17" chrome cobra r's.. that car sounded amazing and got tons of looks for me.. when you are 16 i think either mustang that fits your budget is the best one.. just look for a nice clean mustang and snatch it up!
