What would a pump running dry sound like?

Ive just realised my mustang has developed a delicious coolant leak and it was practically dry of coolant.... Would this cause the pump to make a funny ticking noise?

Maybe the pump, in general, is bad..
I'm pretty sure not having liquid running through it (or any kind of pump for that matter) would cause some problems.

It is very, very bad. I haven't had a water pump run dry, but I've had friends run PS pumps dry, and let's just say they had to put in a new one VERY soon after.

It wasn't dry of coolant there was still some left. Its is really pissing me off because the tick doesn't increase with the RPM of my motor. It stays the same. Stupid low coolant light never came on and i really didnt think of checking my coolant. Im hoping this tick doesn't become serious.. But a new motor isn't that expensive...

If it doesn't increase with RPM, then it's not your water pump, unless you have an electric pump. Fan maybe?

It could be an exhaust leak aparently but i cant hear it at idle and i can only hear it when the motor warms up haha. Im just going to forget about it. If something goes so be it ill have fun doing it...
