I know serveral of you on here are svt techs and ford techs etc. I just want to know where I would go to recieve this training. Are there classes out there that I can take to be trained on just modular engines?? I live in KY in state would be nice.

Start working for a ford dealership and then take the SVT courses and the modular course. And you'll be all set.

You dont need to go to school to work at a dealership.
Never had a day of school in mechanics and I work at a dealership. But I had a healthy mechanical work history.

Well I dont really want to work at a dealership. I have a Electronic engineeering degree and a computer engineering degree, so I have the career thing down. I'm just another hobbiest like yourselves that loves to take it apart, customize, and make it go fast. What I would really like to find is some sort of instruction course that will teach me how to build a 4.6 motor. I would just love to be able to start with a block and go right on up with it. I'm sure it is not extremely difficult, but I know there are tricks of the trade, torquing, and tiny spacing that the internals must be at. I also would like to understand things such as looking at differnet pistons and heads and figuring up what compression I would have. You know everything lol!!! I dunno this could be a completely crazy.

Well....If thats all you wanna know. Then just pick up a rebuild manual. I wouldnt use a haynes or chilton because they are very general. I would buy a Ford manual from a dealership.
You wont learn specifics from a school either. Closest you would get to what you want would be UTI's hotrod class. You would learn how to dyno cars, lean how to install s/c, turbo, nitrous. Learn how to tune it all, learn how to build motors. blah blah blah. Working at a dealership wouldnt get any of what you want either. Except if you would get sent to just a few classes...but you need electrical basics first to move on to others. Good luck

Hell, buy a cheap mod motor off of eBay if you don't want to use your motor as a guinea pig. Just tear into it and start learning.

^Sounds silly, but I agree with acmillr, and you could def. learn alot about the engine that way.

I have a haynes manual but I guess that does not do the engine rebuild. You say a Chilton does, hmm. Well I plan on probably buying a motor to put in my car. Then I can take the current 150k mile gt motor in my car and tare into to learn. Then mod the new motor like I want. One more question. The chilton walks you through complete assembly and all the little measurements and etc.
