Getting kicked out of the track?

So my buddy has a bone stock 2006 shelby cobra vert and i asked him to go to the track with me this spring. He told me they wont let him run his car at the track. is he full of shit?? i am new to drag raceing lol

Also he could be running to fast and need to have a cage. I believe with a vert around here if you run an 11.5 or faster you need a cage.

Well they didn't make the Shelby Cobra(GT500) until 07, that I knew of.

i may have gotten the year wrong of the car i thought he got it in 06

yeah, depends on the track. me and some of our guys didn't get kicked out, but were told to slow it down. ran the 11.1 and told me to slow down, i just get out of it at the 1k ft. mark and coast across the line. Got my fast slip, im happy with it. Dont want to put a cage in yet, carseat still has to fit in the back.

There's a whole slew of reasons they won't let you run. He could be running too fast without a cage, might be dumping fluids, won't wear a helmet, doesn't have NHRA approved components, etc...

Yeah, that's actually sensical. NHRA requires a rollbar in a convertible if you're running faster than a 13.5, which if a GT500 isn't running that fast there's a problem.

EDIT: Which is exactly what Tang already said.

The drastrip told me to slow down. haha

Id be happy with 12.8 lol
Which im pretty sure my car would do if i hooked well.

Thats kinda ridiculous. Hard top is 11.5, and there are several factory cars that can run that. They say they want to keep people off the streets thne wont let them run their stock, factory cars.

When were these numbers decided anyway? I know they have been around for a good while and the strength/safety of cars has certainly increased over the years.

I believe it was '05 when the rule changed from 13.99->13.49 and 11.99->11.49. There was talk of a "Viper rule" for awhile, which would have allowed factory-stock convertibles that ran quicker than 13.49 to pass tech without a rollbar, but it never came to fruition.
