Its really not hard to get a sub 3000 pound 97 Cobra.
I might be a bit more crude in my deletions because I have one goal and that is going fast yet still being able to handle. I've deleted pretty much everything I could without much regard for "comfort" I'm talking no AC, no rear seats, no "delete" kit its just metal back there. Lightweight battery, lighter suspension parts including kmember, driveshaft, rims, hood. Removed everything from trunk, spare tire, dogbone, dash, all speakers and stereo, carpet, insulation etc. Also replaced front driver seat with 10lb recaro and removed passenger seat entirely. Crash bars from door, manual windows, manual mirror adjustments. Passenger side door no longer opens, removed all latching components and its welded shut. I'd love to take it a bit further if I could make my own carbon fiber parts like this guy did. Sub 2500 lbs. 96 Mustang Cobra Project... - Page 18 - Corral Forums Hes having no issue getting below 2400lbs if he wanted to. Except he is replacing the entire body with carbon fiber which I could never afford and still putting in a cage. And I might not be some EMO kid like someone mentioned above, but I do only weigh about 145 which helps. Dont give me that highschool bs either

I also should update a bit here. My previous list of reasons post was slightly inaccurate. I have now dropped an additional ~80lbs from the car by swapping out seats and gained more weight by adding back in AC for the summer.
I finally found my way to a scale and I'm actually 2860lb now with me in it. So my previous post where I said 2800 with AC+leather seats was incorrect. So far I've been keeping track of weight by just saving everything I take off the car and carefully weighing everything and subtracting from stock curb weight. Yet after finding a scale I guess my method is no longer that accurate. Either way I'm very happy with the savings and cant explain what it does to handling. I feel like my weight distribution is off being a bit front heavy yet handling is still lightyears from stock. My next interest is a 5 point suspension from Steeda. What do you guys think about that? |

03-04 Cobra FTW. It may not be the cheapest, but it will be the most RELIABLE 500 hp ever.

Okay, given your description of what you did, I totally believe that you have your car that light.
The way you had stated it earlier made it seem like you still had all the creature comforts, and had somehow found 500+ lbs of sound deadening and spare tires to pull out. I'm also totally on the light car bandwagon. Had a 2000 lb Corolla; even at 65 rwhp, it was honestly more fun to drive than my Cobra. It was mind-numbingly slow in a straight line, but highway speeds on canyon roads was a blast.
