Substituting center console of '03 Cobra for '99 ???

New to this forum, so please bear with me.

I just bought a '99 Cobra. While the car looks great, I'm not wild about the center console on the inside. I noticed that the console looks very similar to the one in a 2003 model, and I'm wondering if the two pieces of plastic are interchangable. My SVT has the Mach 460 (dual deck configuration), and I'm considering replacing it with a bit more modern deck, but I want to go with the single-opening plastic of the newer model.

Is this possible? If so, where could I go to get the part? All the websites I've been surfing around sell engine mods, but interior parts for a newer-model mustang are non-existent. Am I stuck with the Ford dealer or a wrecking yard (not my first choice).

As you can see from my sig, below, I had the wife buy the car for me while I'm deployed overseas. While I go home at the end of this month, the wait is killing me. I'm not sure what I want to do first. Hmm.... wife or drive Mustang, wife or drive Mustang? Choices, choices.....

the only difference i can think of is that the '01- up console has 3 buttons on it. i know one's for the traction control and one's for the foglights, but i can't remember what the other one's for. i've got a 2000 GT, so i know that the foglight button is back by the cupholder. the three buttons are on the shifter bezel if i remember correctly. but if you're planning on keeping your stock bezel, i don't think there will be any issues swapping the center console. hope this helps. as far as putting an aftermarket head unit, i'm planning on doing the samw and i have the Mach 460 as well. i figured the empty slot could just be taken up by a little cubby hole to put random junk (speeding tickets lol) into. that's what i did on my explorer

After some further research, I see that the center console design I want is in the '01 through '04 models.

The reason I want to swap this console for the one in my '99 is that I want to install the Pioneer AVIC-D3. I'm not wild about getting a head unit with the motorized and extending screen. I'm worried about breaking it off or other such damage.

Anyone have any experience doing a swap like this?

the 01-04 had a 6 cd changer built into the dash, where as the 99 00 had two seperate units, one for cassete and one for cd. there should be no problem swapping an 99 dash units with a 01.

multi-task, duh
drive the mustang while doing the wife

Anyone know of a website that sells replacement OEM, interior trim pieces (other than Ford itself)?
