Coil gone bad on my 4.6 GT

What's up everybody unfortunatly my stang not running so well. My stang's an '01 GT intake and exhaust work only. She's hesitating and sputtering real bad during acceleration w/ no check engine light, she only has 50,000 miles and I do all the basic tune-ups pretty regularly. I have carmax warranty so I rather take her to a dealer for cost reasons All the feed back is greatly appreciated! I know these modular v8's are common for a coil-on-plug to go bad now and then and not throw a code.

Check out www.lethalperformance.com or www.americanmuscle.com for an aftermarket coil setup.

edit////So it's not throwing a code? hmmm, I would assume if you had a bad coil, it would throw a code. I will have to think this over some more. Below is my instructions for troubleshooting a bad coil.

If you are not ready to step up and buy 8 new coils, you can just replace the bad one. The easiest way to find it is to buy a new one and then just pull each coil off individually and see if it makes a difference. If it runs the same when you pull it off, it is probably bad. I have used this before and the procedure works very well and takes very little time to complete.

Mine had same issue last month. Except I had a code that said #6 misfiring. Sure enough some water got under the coil. Coil is still good and some dielectric grease fix that problem, 15 minutes of idle to relearn and she was back to normal.

you should be getting a code. check for moisture under the coil.

i had the same problem. sputtering like crazy and not wanting to run WOT! i replaced the throttle position sensor, what i thought was a bad coil, fuel filter, and finally what it actually was, was a bad fuel pump! so what i suggest is that u replace the fuel filter, and double check all your coils for cracks etc.

but to be honest, i think its your fuel pump!

goodluck,
Rick

After reading what rick said and rereading the original post. Rick is probly right, if the car is good while its still kinda cool, then after its driven a while and warms up the fuel pump might be overheating and trying to shut off.

your exactly right! when my car was having this problem, it only did it when i ran for over 20 to 30 min! as soon as i went about 10 or so miles, cough, cough, sputter, sputter! and another thing, if u run your car low on fuel, the fuel pump will try to pump whats not there and eventually lock up, and or over heat causing it to completely stop working! i also had around the same mileage u had on your car, but that was my old 2000 GT. i drive a 03 now!

Goodluck,
Rick
