We just did an automatic to manual T-45 swap in my 98 GT. IT WAS A HUUUUGE PAIN IN THE ASS!!!!!!! You think you know what ur gettin into but it turns out to be more. We started at ampperformance.com because they have a full kit for the change over. (However, even though they had friendly service, they took FOREVER to get me all the right shit sent to me! First the wrong flywheel, and no driveshaf, then a fucked up emf, but eventually got it all.) The kit cost me $2,200 wich included an optional pro50 short throw shifter

The kit includes: used T-45 w/bell, used starter plate, (6) bolt used resurfaced flywheel, New clutch kit (King Cobra or Luk), used clutch fork, used wiring, used crossmember w/mount, used drive shaft, used computer, used handle, used ball, New pressure plate bolts w/dowels, used 5 speed pedal box, New clutch cable, and used upper and lower shift boots.

**Options** 1.)Aluminum flywheel $200
2.)Aluminum drive shaft $200
3.)Short throw shifter $150

**Warranty**1.)used parts 30 days
2.)New parts 1 years
3.)No labor warranty

*Plus all your oils and fluids and shit.

The easy part is strippin everything out and it's pretty easy to put everything manual in. Just take your time and be a perfectionist about it cuz the slightest thing put in a little lose or crooked will either make a weird noise or vibration or worse fuck it up.

Don't know if you knew this part or not, but u have to offcoarse switch out the emf(computer) to a manual emf. This is easy but u have to either find someone with a Ford MGS system or bring it to a Ford dealership to have the peramiters reset and the PATS-II anti-theft system reset and have ur keys programmed for the computer. You will need to have two keys to have this done also. That will run you about $150.

SOOO, if everything goes smooth then u can see about where you would be sittin with the price,...if everything goes smooth. If you can afford it get a new transmission instead and ya the T-56 6-speed would be better. Those T-45s are not exactly the most durable trannys. In my opinion, if you don't have a ton of mods done to you mustang now, then sell it and just buy a manual. If I'm not mistaken, they are cheaper than an automatic and you can take the saved money and buy mods for your new manual mustang! Hope this helped you out a little bit! Good luck!

I talked to my mechanic about the t-45 vs. t-56. The t-45 will hold up to 800hp and only makes a total of about a 5% differance of acceleration through the first 3 gears. Despite that small gain. The transmission requires a bunch of refabing and spacers to get it to fit correct. The only car worth having a t-56 in is the cobra since it came with it. My mechanic said, don't do it, its not worth it.
Thats what I heard, and I don't plan to go over 800hp any time soon.

thats just BS...You're mechanic str8 lied to u
I NEVER heard of any 745 to be able to hold 800hp for one. The t45 doesn't even come close to being as strong as the t56. And Second the t45 is more compact than the t56 and it came in cobras from the years of 96-01. It' fits just as well as the T5, T56, and TR3650. I don't know what refabbing or spacers you're talking about. T45s swap in like butter assuming you have all the needed parts...

I don't know if that guy should call himself a mechanic then cuz if you didn't read my last post I said I did the swap! I don't know what the fuck that refabing bs is about. I didn't have to do any of that shit and it's in my car. The t-56 is def. better. The t-45 is not a strong transmission, trust me they break alot.

ya basicly. but in the end ur sittin with a car that depreciated in value and just isn't as perfect as an allready manual car is. But don't het me wrong, I did it and don't regret it, U just have to face the fact that if u don't get a shop to do it for basicly around the same price, give or take a few hundred, if something fucks up, u pay for the fixin not a shop. But hey, it always feels like u really did somethin special when u do it urself so good luck if u decide to tackle it!

the stock t45's are good to 400, then start to push it after that. the t56 is conservitivly rated to 450. i hate the 2.66 first gear in the t56 but they do have an optional 2.99. the t45 has a 3.37 first and is a good trans for the average joe. you can get a viper spec t56 to handle ass loads of power if you want. i just ordered a built t45 from promotion powertrain, their bad boy t45 is rated to 750 with the 26 spline input. it really depends on what all you want and how much you want to spend as far as prices are concerned.
