Steering shaft too short

I installed a QA1 k member and long tubes (along with other things, pi swap, cams, blaa, blaa, blaa) on my 98 GT. First I will say dropping the k member is the way to go as I did it both ways. Anyway, getting to my question. Does the QA1 k member drop or move the steering rack down and/or forward in the car? The problem is my factory steering shaft is too short to reach the steering wheel by about 1/2 to 1 in. I hope I'm doing something wrong which is why it don't fit because I really don't want to buy an aftermarket steering shaft an have to pull the header off, AGAIN, not to mention dropping the k member and the other thing that go with the job, to put it on. God forbid any of the aftermarket parts distrubuters have there techs work on Saturdays when most people work on their cars.

post a pics of underneath the car and everything. it shoud be a direct replacement as far as i know. did you compress the steering shaft, and not extend it before you try to install it?

I think it's fully extended. I tried a pry bar to extend it fully and also tapped it with a hammer to see if it was just stuck. No luck.

First,I hope your wheels were straigtened before you disconnected the shaft ,otherwise you could damage your clock spring.

Your talking about the interior portion of that shaft right ?Anyways ,did you try pulling up on the shaft ? Like pull up and towards the knuckle at the same time. Its should have some slack in it. Lay underneath the car and have someone else pull up on it so you can see if you hung up some where . Maybe your hitting the LT's ? Ive heard some people talk about needing different offset bushings, but I dont know how that applies here.

BTW- Im not 100% certain, but that knuckle bolt might be TTY.

I'll have to get under the car and look to see if I'm hitting anything. I don't think I am, but who knows, when I get frustrated my eyes stop seeing important but simple things so I have to walk away. I'm fairly certain that it is full extended though. I have Steeda off set rack bushing, not installed, just sitting in my garage. They don't fit with aftermarket K-members without modifiactions. Just to confirm your suspisions, the pinch bolt is a tty. Thanks for the supoort. I'm also going to call QA1 to see what they have to say.

^ Tupid ...jk jk

TTY= Torque To Yield . Meaning you can only us it once. Like head bolts for example. The bolt spreads out when torqued,so it cant be used again.

Well, I called QA1 and I didn't get an answer because the mustang guy was on the phone and didn't call me back like he said he was. I think I might be doing some modifications to the shaft if I can't get an answer. This sucks because the enginge has to come out again and I need to remove the header.
