Noise from rear - vid
Starting about a month ago (shortly after practiced some hard launches with the new clutch) I started getting some clicking/snapping sounds from the rear while taking off from a stop. The sounds aren't deep and there's no noise coming from the rear at highway speeds so I thought may be it was my rear U joint going bad. Today I'm checking it out and it looks like the U joint is fine. So I pop off the dif cover, lube looks fine with no broken pieces visable. Rocking the wheel back and forth I can pretty much reproduce the sound I'm hearing. What could this be? I have an idea.

After receiving suggestions from other Mustang boards it looks like a rebuilt is in order. I'll be replacing the two sets of gears, lock pin, S spring, C clips, and clutch packs. I'll be replacing the packs with the carbon fibre discs. These are the same that are in the 03-04 Cobra diffs. They offer better axle lock-up while operating and generate less heat. A nice upgrade.
![]() Woot, another Cobra part for the 6er.
