Hydrolock
Hey has anybody heard of "hydrolock" I think is what it's called.
Somethin like when water gets in ur engine. I ask cuz my friend has a 98 cobra w/ CAI. He has a hole in his fender well where the air filter sits. Anyways, he was drivin in the rain and he went through a VEEERY large puddle in the road and water splashed up the sides and everywhere then his car boggled to a stop and would crank and not stay running anymore. His dad researched it and found an article that said water could be sucked up through the air filter and into the engine I guess and cause hydrolock or something?! His car won't start. Does anybody know anything about this or know if it's fact or just a myth?

it's a fact. it can happen when you suck water in through the air intake. it locks the motor because water, like all liquids is not compressible. time for a new motor...

Yep it happens...
I did it to my stock engine... Take the plugs out and turn it over... If it shoots water out of the spark plug holes then it is prolly hydrolocked... It might turn back over and if it does tell him to count himself as lucky... |

Man, sucks for him...
Can that motor be taken apart and then put back together and then work?

I would go with a forged rotating set-up... Also check the heads to make sure the valves are not fubared... |

This is why I advise against ppl using stuff like Seafoam. If you pour in to much then you will hydrolock. And I just think some ppl have no clue to what they are doing. If your friends engine hydrolocked, you might get lucky and it still not be fubared.

Water under the coilpack will kill the engine. Remove them and check. Die-electric greese should always be used to seal them in place. He should be throwing a code too. Which will comfirm this.

Well if it is hydrolocked he wont be throwing anything becuase the engine is seized with water...
The engine cant compress water like it does air...Thus it fubars... |
