thinking of buying...
Hi, I'm thinking of buying a new car, and am seriously looking at a mustang. I can't however decide on what I want....I'd like to keep my spending limit under $45,000 for now, but will want a mustang that I can still do a bit of work on later down the road....
I was considering a 427R or a stag 3 if I found one at a good price, but wouldn't be opposed to getting a Shelby, or even a regular mustang that I mod. I'm also looking at E-bay for a fairly new one(under 10,000mi). I think the 427R is at the top of my list for now. Anybody have any feedback on what they have/have driven and what they like? This wouldn't be a car I'd be racing every weekend...Maybe take it to the drag-strip every month or 2....but I'd still like to drive it around town on the weekends. thanks for any feedback. -FireFighter/Paramedic Brian Sullivan |

welcome to the forums.
a 03-04 Cobra would be a nice platform for gobs of power.

An 03/04 Cobra or a GT500 are great platforms, but you would have a hell of a GT if built the motor with twin turbos.

+1 on the 03/04 termie. you could find a decent low mileage one and then mod the hell out of it for some serious HP and FUN

The nice thing about buying a new Roush, Saleen, or Shelby is that it is high performance with a factory warranty. Their book values also support a higher bank loan. I know a local Ford dealership that is installing Roush superchargers that they say does not invalidate your warranty but I don't believe financing is available. Then again, for $45,000 you could build one awesome older Mustang.

It really depends on what you want it for. I've got a Stage 3 and it's great as a road car or road course car. Handles like a dream. If you want straight line power go with the Shelby. If you want a mix of both road and straight line, go with Saleen.
I really love my Stage 3 but you can hit a wall really quick with the mods unless you put in forged internals. The 5.4 in the Shelby gives you lots of room to mod and not worry about anything. The warranty was a concern for me and I found a deal when I bought my Stage 3 that I have a powertrain warranty for 7 years/70K miles. I figures it was worth it on a supercharged car. I've also got a Roush Roadster and the suspension on the Stage 3 is incredible compared to the standard GT or Roush Roadster. As far as price, right now you can get a good rebate on a Roush/Saleen at the dealerships. The Shelby's aren't even down to MSRP yet so if cost is important I'd go with one of the Roush or Saleens. If you can do your own wrench turning and don't have to have a warranty, you can build a Stock GT for less than one of the Roush/Saleen type cars. However, it might affect your trade in value in the end. Hope this helps. |

I'm just stating how easy it is to be on the same level as the GT500.

You have a point, but for someone who is still deciding on what to get it may sound like a lot. It almost sounds like you were saying get a 03/04 Cobra and put 15 g into, then it will be fast.
I know what you meant by it though.

take out that 45 grand loan
buy a 04 v6 or 03 for like 8 grand. build yourself a monster motor and jsut install all new shocks, struts, mounts, rear end, transmission, hell you could put an independent rear suspension in it as well For alot less than 45 grand.

anybody notice he said NEW car?
i'd say get a new plain jane GT and throw on a turbocharger or 2, get forged internals, bump up the boost for the track and lower it for daily driving.. you'd see 400 or 500hp on the street and almost unlimited hp for the track.. spend the rest on exterior mods, wheels, etc. |
