Loud Engine noise

When the car hits 12mph is sounds like its going to blow up. Almost sounds like the timing chain is off. I think the knock sensors are fried because they were plugged into the wrong plug so it may be trying to adjust timing but im not sure. Could possibly be tuning but the timing is really conservative.

Anyone shed some light for me?

You sure you haven't spun a rod or main bearing?

Other than the loud noise, is it running smooth? Missing at all? If this happened when it was being tuned, my first gut feeling is the timing is way off. That could cause some fairly loud pinging/knocking.

Does it do anything if you sit there in neutral and rev her up a bit?

See that leads me to believe it's a driveline issue. Something in the tranny, a u joint, or the rear end maybe.

Although it is possible that something is wrong with the engine to whre it's only doing that under load. So it's consistent, and does it every time at 12mph? Does it get worse or go away as you keep accelerating?

it goes away as i accelerate or just put it into neutral. Its not consistant because my buddy went for a drive in it and we built boost fine. couldnt hear it so we were driving back to the shop and BAM it happened. Keeps happening

the noise is from the engine. thought it may be the tranny but i checked it

Maybe it will come down to those knock sensors being F'd then.

foudn this

Question: 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan mileage: 125,000. I recently took my van to a mechanic because of a annoying noise and a loss of oil pressure. He changed the main bearings and rod bearings. I took it back the same day because it is still losing oil pressure and the noise is still there. The truck is idling about 10 pounds of oil pressure and at running speed it is about 25 pounds. I paid about 1700.00 dollars to have this van worked on but I don’t feel that I got my moneys worth.

Answer: Was the oil pump replaced when the work was done? If not, the oil pressure relief valve may be stuck open causing low oil pressure. The engine noise may be in the valve train.

All righty, so how is your oil pressure? Normal? Not fluctuating at all, particularly around the 12mph where you hear the noise?

pulled the filter and oil and it has ALOT of metal in it. I thought it had already broken in after the first oil change (30miles) I guess its not or something in there is breaking

does it sound like there's something rolling around inside the block that shouldn't be rolling around? if the answer is yes, then you're probably the owner of a brand new spun rod bearing. i spun a rod bearing about a month and a half ago. when they dropped the oil pan, 3 chunks of what used to be a rod bearing fell out. metal shavings in the oil filter are also not good signs. it's probably time for a rebuild. sorry. i feel your pain, brother...
