the 5.4 4v would be an awesome setup to deal with, but you might have problems fitting in the intake in the stock hood unless you get the adapters from reichard racing...

Bro it is a great swap...
I have only seen 5 or 6 of them done... Not a bad swap... Pretty much what you can expect for that kind of swap... If you take your time and do the research it shouldn't be too bad... They did a 5.4 4V build in the last copy of MM&FF...They made well over 500fwh N/A...With boost they broke the 1000 fwh mark... |

dont need adapter plates for a 4v swap...there are aftermarket intakes for a 5.4 4v. Sullivan being major one. Im not sure if it first under a stock hood. It might but its probabaly pretty tight. A small cowl should help.

I just finished my 5.4L 2v swap. The torque is raunchy... seriously you'll love it. I did a built motor, ported heads, cams, HPS intake and reichard 2v plates.
HPS is about to bring out their new 5.4L 2v intake... can't wait. It'll fit under the stock hood. Pics for anyone that cares: Linky Ignore the last pic... my torque arm. |

the process itself was cake. Dan Simons did pimp work on his 5.0 & SF article and that pretty much spelled out exactly how to do it. There were no real surprises... pull the 4.6, stuff in the 5.4 and fiddle with 1 hose, the EGR and the hood and bango... she fires.
2v is the way to go for simplicity. It still brings the power home too. I may do a 4v upgrade one day but this 5.4 is a fat ol' hog of a motor and you can feel the power in any gear so I'm really happy for now. In 5th gear going 55 w/ 3.55 gears I just push the pedal down and it's winding up 70mph in just couple seconds. My 4.6 would have groaned and slowly ticked up the MPH but the 5.4 just goes and god forbid you "try" to roast the tires... they'll roast alright. |

Figured I share the dyno results with you guys. These are just baseline results. No tuning was done other than enough to get it to the dyno facility. Not terribly disappointed in the numbers. There's another 15+hp in the tune at minimum... it's a really safe tune but gave up some power. I'll fix that soon enough. In the meantime, I'm heading down to get the longtubes pretty soon here which should be worth 15 or so more and there's still the 5.4 intake to get and install. I could tell the plates are holding it back some. There's a lot more in it than they're allowing but that's the nature of the beast. The new intake will solve that problem.
For reference, my bone stock 4.6 with a 87 octane tune: ![]() BASELINE tune on the 5.4L running rich & backed off timing:

I've seen one swap of the V10 into a V6, apparently it's just as easy as the 5.4L, the only part you have to make is the headers.

had to whack my old 4.6 dyno link... was killing my web server. Stock was 232/280 on the 4.6.
The tune is a little harder to deal with, the wiring harness is different and needs updated and there's no intake that'll work under a hood so you'll have to make that too. |
