Just Mufflers

Since V8s already come with dual exhaust would just putting new mufflers on the exhaust instead of the whole cat-back affect the sound and/or performance? Not that exhaust helps in that much in performance but you know what I mean.

So it will sound just as good as if I put the cat-back on. What makes after market cat-backs give you that like 5 extra horsepower lol?

2.5 inch piping, mandrel bent, tips, and the high dollar ones are usually stainless.

no, just replacing mufflers will not make as much of a difference in sound as getting a whole new cat-back system. back when i had my 04 gt, i replaced the mufflers only and it made very little difference, but that little bit of difference sounded alot better than the factory mufflers.

I just kept the stock midpipe, cut out the cats, and put flowmasters with turndowns on it. there's not much bending from the headers back, so it doesn't really matter in my case.
