Question

Cold Air Intakes

Something I've been pondering for a while... why don't high performance cars, such as the GT500, come stock with a cold air intake?

Steeda for example offers one and claims an increase of 12 hp. So why wouldn't Ford slap a cold air intake on there themselves? It's not like it's that expensive of a part.

they do come with cold air intakes.
why do you think you only see little gains when going with an after market part.

Yup, HMUSN is right. But 9 times out of 10 the stock air intake is very restrictive, usually to keep road noise down because not everyone that buys a car like a Mustang wants balls out speed and noisy exhuast, sometimes they just want a nice comfortable car that is quick and cool to cruise around in. But for people like us that want to get every horsepower available, they make less restrictive air intakes, exhaust pipes, throttle bodies, etc.

it also leaves the aftermarket wide open to the mustangs. that is one thing nice about the ford's, aftermarket is wide open.

Technically every car made now has a cold air intake. The after market ones are just suppose to be better . Less restrictive filters and so forth. By definition a cold air intake, back in the day was just not the stupid breather that sat on top of the carb which was right on top of the engine which was about the hottest place on the planet to get air from.

the stock air boxes on the 99-04's are pretty efficient...there's not a whole lot to be gained by putting an aftermarket one on.

if you remove the air silencer, you'll let a little more air in, and you might like it a little better too.

I just stuck a MAC Straight shot on mine, and the only thing i really noticed was the throttle response is a little better, but that's about it.

until i see dyno papers, that's exactly what you're full of.

i find it hard to believe you dyno'd your car just to put on a CAI, and then put it on and dyno'd again. what else was installed with it? if nothing, you're an idiot for tuning a car for just a CAI.

sorry...it's wasteful to spend the time and money tuning your car when the only thing you added was a CAI.

the guys at JLT (as well as all other cai company's)do it to test there product

besides.. no one said he was tuning the car. you don't have to tune every time you hop on a dyno

he claims he gained 12 hp from adding a JLT CAI. he says he dyno'd the car before and after. i think he's full of it, because no one in there right mind would tune and dyno their car, after adding ONLY a CAI.

and if he did tune and dyno his car, after just adding a CAI...then that's just wasteful spending, and a complete waste of time.

until he has dyno sheets to prove it...it's all just talk.

granted it's a Cobra so the numbers should be higher but here is a before and after on a stock vs jlt car.
21rwhp and 18 rwtq

http://www.svtcobraclub.com/TechAppl...LT_Results.pdf

so i can see 9 rwhp from a GT.

and this is a non bias third party result with dynos as requested

i dynoed the car after i bought the car to see what kind of power i was making. i had a few mods, nothing major. then i bought a JLT and dyno'd it again to see how much i gained. i didn't have it tuned, but i tuned it on the dyno ecause the JLT leaned out my A/F ratio. sorry if you think it's stupid to dyno your car after you mod it. i kinda like to know how much power my car is making and also to see the A/F. if i hadn't i could've wound up with a big problem due to the lean A/f. yeah, you're right, it's stupid to dyno your car after you mod it. i really must be an idiot. and i don't have to show you my dyno sheets to prove shit to you. if you don't believe that a CAI adds hp and tq, you should probably re-examine who you call an idiot...
