Traction Control

went to my squadrons picnic today and i was talking to an officer that has one of the new gt500s. i found out he had an 04 cobra before he got the 500. we got on the subject of traction control and both of us wondered what are the differences between the mustang TC and the TC put on the newer corvettes. if im not mistaken, the TC on stangs is more intended for safety reasons and the TC on vettes is more for performance. do any of u guys know the differences between the two?

The Mustang's Traction Control Sucks

No performance to be had with the Mustang's traction control. It cuts fuel and, get this, even applies the brakes when it's bad enough. Don't know how the Corvette traction control works but, no matter what, I'm sure it's better.

I had my traction control turned off via tune first chance I got, so I wouldn't have to remember to turn it off every time I started the car.

Like Joe I turned my TC off with my turner as soon as I received the unit. It does indeed use the brakes partially, and if you're using your car strictly for performance, and not driving it in the snow, it serves no purpose. If you do turn it off make sure you pay attention if you are driving your car in the rain.

Yeah, I left it on in a few of my races when I first got my car, didnt really know anything about it. I bogged my car so bad trying to launch with it, finally turned it off and boy did it make a difference.

I was talking to a guy at the track with a corvette a while back ago when LACR was open, he told me he turned it off too. I think it does the same thing cause he didnt like having it on either. I think thats what he was talking about, cant remember exactly.

I turned the t/c off in my tune as it was redundant--my car has a skinny pedal on the right, and another of the far left that when used (sometimes in combination) give me full traction control...

Oh, it's also got a pedal in the middle that when used properly does anti-lock braking...

i know that. the tc on the stangs is more for safety. and ive been told before that the tc on the newer vettes is strictly for performance.

TCS on any car limits wheelspin and has to do something the driver is capable of doing to do so...IE, i'd rather be my own traction control... I cut the fuel when i take my foot of the accelerator and i apply the brakes with the brake pedal...I dont need a computer to do that for me..

Although i could see how TCS could help a car out on the track...but im doubting the corvette's tcs is there for a performance reason...

I have been programming computers for almost 40 years, and even the most sophiticated cannot do this sort of thing as well as a human, and they never will...

If they could then there wouldn't be a pilot sitting in an F-22...

I have wondered and if anyone has tried this let me know what happened. Did anyone with their traction control off get out of control and have the time to push the button and turn it on while fishtailing out of control? If so... what happened? I have always been too busy counter steering to think of or try pushing the button.(not that I have actually ever been "out of control" )

I dont think it would do anything, even with traction control on you can break the tires loose if you rev the rpms high enough and dump your clutch. The little light turns on in your dash but it wont do much anymore if your that much out of control. So I would say... only you can save yourself when loosing control.

+1 I don't think you would have time to push the button. Even if you did manage to push the button, by that time you're probably a little more out of control then just your tires spinning (spinning in circles, sliding sideways, etc.). And since TC is not a sophisticated Stability control system, it would probably do nothing at that point...

the vette's TCS is not for drag racing but for rather high angle cornering.

the vette has impressive numbers when it comes to touring, and race tracks with sharp curves....like auto cross or something.

that's what makes it more performance for the vette.

Yup I just re-tubed my entire brake system to rid the car of the T/C, what a bitch. My buddy has a 07 Vette the T/C in that has three modes, one being preformance. I know that at 132 mph it lowers the car by one inch. I'm still reading his onwers manual.

Thanks for the heads up here. I won't be driving the Stang in bad weather if I can help it, so for the most part, I guess I should leave TC off huh?
