98 GT Won't Start... Theft Issue Maybe?

So a week and a half ago i completely drained the battery in my mustang and then i got hit with a week and a halfs worth of snow and ice so jus yesterday i finally went out got a new battery put it in and everything has power now. When i go to start it the starter sounds fine everything goes as normal except it jus won't fire up. And i can't rember if my theft light is suppose to be flashing or not... Would the theft light be the issue if so how do i fix it. Also it has never has issues starting before until now. BTW yes it has plenty of gas and it is like mid 20 degrees outside. Thankx any advice is helpful im on college break and can't get home!!! lol

That blinking light means trouble for you. It means that the system is keeping the car from starting for some reason. Do you have another key for the car? If so then I would try that one to see what happens.

Yep sounds like the theft system has been activated and is not recognizing the key. Sorry but the only way to fix that is to take it to the dealer and have them reprogram it.

Unfortuneatly i only have one key for the car and i found the fuel pump switch and it appears to be engaged so i don't think thats the problem also i have an sct xcal2 tuner and the car won't even recognize the tuner when i plug it in.... it won't even give the tuner power to turn on... so i guess ill jus have it towed to ford and have them fix it... if there are any other suggestions please let me know... thx

ya when it flashes it means it has a problem. meaning you probably reset the computer in your car leaving it dead for so long so the system doesn't recognize the key since it wont have a key programed to it. you got to go to the dealer for that.

If it won't power the Xcal from the obd2 port then I would start checking fuses and connections. That makes me want to think that the computer in the car isn't getting power.

What color was you factory key? tan or black. all you have to do to program it yourself is a series of turning the key to the on and off position then leaving in the on position for 15 seconds and then starting the color makes the big diff because they have diff chips.

On a 98 that won't work.

97 is PATS and the 98 Mustang is definitely PATS II. I have one and I work on these cars for a living.

Unfortunately you can't program for another key or reprogram 1 on a 98 yourself unless you have 2 working keys.

Here is a link that I found by googling that explains it a little.

i work at pepboys, someone just brought in a 98gt for a nostart diagnostic-which is about $100. i take the key, turn it, see it flashing and tell him to go to the dealer, key chip's bad. i as a mechanic get 1 hour labor for that, for figuring out why it wont start, in this case turning the key and looking. they didnt beleive me so i hooked up the scanner...it said not recieving code from transponder chip in key. i got 1 hour pay for 5 minutes work. its times like this flatrate kicks ass haha.

Yeah I would def. say check the fuse first. But still take it to the shop, because there's some reason that the fuse blew. They don't just blow for no apparent reason. Unfortunately, with computers, theres not much the shade tree mechanic can do anymore
