05+ vs 96-04 bottom end strength ?There is this rumor all over the internet that it is a known fact that the limit of power a 96-04 bottom can handle is roughly 450rwhp.. There are guys everywhere making close to 500rwhp in 05+ cars with no issues.. is there any difference in the rotating assembly in 05+ cars? I'm currently right at 400rwhp with 10lb of boost and 21 degrees of timing with an afr a little under 12.0.. I want to go with 12 lb of boost but with all this talk about la da da your rods will come out the hood the minute the dyno goes from 449 - 450 rwhp.. Does anyone really know for sure what, if there is any, difference in the 96-04 cars bottom ends compared to the 05+'s ? If not maybe all of us 99-04 guys should quit being little girls and raise the boost..

you can run 500hp on just about any stock block before it starts to do minimal damage
the newer 4.6's i believe are stronger but ot by much

Ive asked the same question to my tuner and said that theyre all the same. Theyre just on borrowed time and the bottom wont last forever. Look at my sig. He actually got 431 rwhp and 441 rwtq but he just pulled some timing out so that i wouldnt get in trouble. So dont stress yourself i really wouldnt push 12 pounds what are your other mods.

anything over 450 and you are on borrowed time. that includes the sn95 and the new s197 blocks.

hmm... my mods are just the P1SC, 3 core intercooler, full length headers, mac o/r prochamber, magnapack cat back..
Basically just your average supercharged GT What exactly is the difference in the engines? rods? pistons?

the 2v's are rated for 450 for a rough average. you can push them a little more, but is all up to the owner of the car. the VE of the 3v is so much better and has no problem flowing more boost. i have seen 3v's lay down up closer to the 600 on stock bottom ends, and have seen them blow at 560. i have seen 2v's hold 500 and blow at 440. i have seen the 4v's hold 500 and be a dd car w/o any troubles out of them.

Hmm.... I know.. Even the older 4v cars run big power all the time with no issues.. and the older 32v engines rods were the same as the 2vs right? I just don't get it.. Does the 3v's better volumetric efficiency mean they can safely make more power? Thats gonna take some thinking to agree with..

the rods are the same, but the heads can efficiently get rid of the cyllinder pressure easily. a lot of it depends on the power adder and tune also. if the air is able to move fast and free, the cylinders wont be under a huge amount of pressure for very long. i am not saying that is the reason why, but is a big contributing factor. a set of cams will ease a lot of pressure, but will 99% likely they would be n/a cams that have a tight lsa allowing a lot of scavenging. competley wrong for boost, and will waste n20.
