Transmissions broke... again

Soo... I was drivin On Christmas dayand in 5th gear it acted like it jumped out of gear. I went to put it back up in 5th and it was still in 5th.. There was lots of clunk ah dee clunk in going on in there.

I pushed it off the road, in 5th gear, with the clutch out..

It won't pull and it won't come out of 5th... any ideas??

Where is the cheapest place to buy a TKO500.. I just bought a 10 spline clutch so I have to stay 10 spline..

I'm not investing anymore money in these junky 3650's..

Is there another transmission other than a TKO 500 that you guys think is better for the money? Like a built T45 or somethin?

So I started in on it today, and got the thing today... Lowering the K member makes things soooooooooooooo much easier.. We took the 4 bottom bolts off and the 2 bolts on each side by the struts off and lowered the K member with a jack about 3 inches.. It gave is so much more room to get to the top bellhousing bolts and let the transmission have room to rotate for the starter "hump" to clear the header....

There is definitely something broke in the transmission though..

If Its going to cost much at all to fix I think I may just go ahead and buy a 10 spline TKO 500..

if it were me i would just build the 3650. a tko is an expensive swap, and need to have the work done to not get hung up on high rpm shifts. i would call promotion powertrain and talk to them! that is who did my set up and i highly recommend them

ProMotion Powertrain

were you on it when this happened?

there is a chance the clutch heated up, sometimes it wont let it disingage. would it come out while sitting still with the engine off?

if thats not the case, its definently something internal.

the promotion built T3650 is probably your best choice. ive been having problems with one of mine, and a friends TKO600, both of them are having 3rd gear issues, does not want to go in. and we are not alone either.

get a built T3650, or a T56.

I wasn't getting on it at all... average driving 70mph 1/4 throttle maybe.. 5th gear...

The clutch is a fairly new Centerforce Dual Friction.. I was afraid the eye of it would be busted out but it looks fine..

Since I've got the transmission out on the ground now I know something is wrong with it.. you can feel it catch, pop, then let go as you turn the input shaft.. something is def wrong inside..

The worse part is, is that I just had this one rebuilt for 2nd gear 3 months ago.

There is a lot of info on that promotion site.. THanks..

I really want to stay with a 10spline transmission as I just bought this 10 spline clutch.. $400.. ouch

call up pro motion.

the 10 spline is weak, you can simply just buy a CF DFX 26 spline disc

its only $225 for a DFX, or $115 for a LM clutch disc in 26 spline.

T45s are not a good tranny tp take abuse, the 3650 on the other hand when build right will easly handle 900hp+
see the MMR site

call promotion, they can answer that question.

gears grinding is most likely syncro's, and not going into gear can be a few things, clutch, but most likely sound like you have a messed up shift fork.

depending on how much power you put down, the 10 spline might be/might not be enough for you. 400 is average for a 10 spline, a 26 is an ugrade that they can do and might recommend. they are highly against the spec 3 or anything higher, or the dual friction clutches. they will recommend a set up, but is totally up to you to decide who to listen to. call and talk to walt or wally, they will be able to explain any question you might have. it can be hard to get through sometimes, but is well worth it in the end!

26 spline is a must for abuse all you need is a 26 spline friction disk, do it right the first time or do it time after time---Me I been there and done that!

We took these bolts loose:

and these bolts: you can barely see one.. (the two by the struts)

To clear these dam headers:

5 foot extension to take out top starter bolt:

It should come out fairly easy if you don't have headers...

here is a good link..
Tremec T45 Transmission Removal

I jack the car up fairly high on jack stands.. It will have to be at least high enough to let the transmission slide out..

I put jackstands under the A arms (under front sub frame if i'm dropping K member) and under the rear axles..

I use a jack and a small board to support the transmission as I'm pulling it out..

You usually have to use a crow bar or something to break the transmission loose from the engine block at first.. (make sure you have all bolts out first! including two at top) after that you will have to slide it straight back, keep the tail of the transmission up so that the input shaft won't be in a bind until it clears.

You'll soon be able to see the input shaft in the clutch and where its at, It isn't more than a few inches that you have to slide it back until you can start trying to lower it..

Be careful also not to put pressure against the eye of the clutch.. You reallllly need to make sure that you have the transmission somewhat level with the engine until the input shaft clears everything...

ummmm... Drain the transmission fluid first.. or when you pull the driveshaft out it will run out in your face..

be careful with all the wiring .. make sure everything is either off or clear..

Its not actually that bad of a job.. especially if you don't have headers.. Just try it your self.. You'll have plenty of support here, as well as lots of info all over the web..
