Brakes Are Squeeky

I've been browsing threads without an answer. @_@

My brakes are pretty squeeky. They weren't always like this when I got the car, it has just started recently. I don't think it's had an effect on braking power but it's an annoying sound, and I believe I now have to press harder on the brake pedal than before (though I may be imagining that, I am not sure).

Any idea of what the problem could be, or is it the weather doing it? I hope I don't need new brakes...I just bought the car.

has it been raining or have you been or live down a dirt road? Sometimes dirt or dust can get on the pads and it can cause it to squeek

If not I say just change the pads. I had to do it for my brothers dodge stratus and it worked fine after that. They were like, i think, 20-40 bucks? It was awhile ago

Hm, thanks. Maybe it is just the pads. Nevertheless, I am definitely getting my dealership to look at it for me. I've only had it for two weeks so it should be covered if there's anything wrong with it, right?

Didn't purchase an extended warranty for nothing! :p

Check the thickness of the pads, they may be OK. Mine were squealing soon after I bought my car but the pads were fine, I got some anti-squeal packets from Auto-Zone and that cleared it up. As for your dealership, do them yourself, the dealer won't cover brake pads usually (with or without a warranty) as they are considered a "wearable part".

My brakes started smoking out the right front wheel the other day...blue smoke and a horrible burning rubber smell. I'm going to guess this isn't normal...

Should I continue driving it as it is or take it to my dealership to be fixed? Is this not a sign of needed repair? Any idea what it can be...perhaps the brake pads, but smoke coming from my brakes?? And the stench?

Did the tire lock up? I would have the dealer check it out since it has a warranty.

dude.. pull the wheel off and take a pic.
now you will also need a rotor more than likely.
keep driving it and you will need a caliper as well.

I still haven't taken it to my dealership because they want it overnight and I haven't found the time to take it there for them to keep overnight (I need my car a lot right now)..

The brakes are still working it's just harder to brake than when I originally got the car (like I have to press the brake harder). Will definitely get it checked out soon though because I don't want to risk my life, but thanks for the answers...it may well as be the brake pads that need to be changed, who knows yet.
