Question

Anyone put a GT500 on a diet?

I am considering selling my Lotus Exige and moving back to some American muscle. I have had fun over the last few years with an M3 and a Lotus Exige. The Lotus is light and great handling car and I want to setup a GT500 for autocross and track days. Anyone here know how to effectively improve performance and handling by dropping weight? This would still be a daily driver so I can't rip out everything...just looking for some tips on worthless junk that can be removed!

Matt

It is a boat. Iron block 5.4 with blower and all the bells and whistles, not to mention the s-197's are heavy anyways. I would pull all seats when you go to the track, I think they deleted the spare tire for that instant inflate crap so no jack or tire to get rid of.

they actually handle very well from the factory. there is some weight reduction you can do, you can gut some of the interior, get lighweight seats, wheels, some suspension stuff.

they handle damn good though.

Yeah i would think get a rear seat delete kit if you don't mind losing them but still keep a cleen look and get some racing seats. also Wheels like said above loss of rotating mass can pay huge dividends. at least it did on my sportbike. and maybe switch some body parts out for carbon fiber.

Trust me mchristian

The Shelby GT500 don't need a diet.

1st hand non-bias opinion, just feed the car $1200 in performance mods. and you have a 11.40 car on stock street tires.

Those performance mods. are CAI, 2.6 pulley, spark plugs, and a pump gas tune is all you need. Other mods. needed is LCA's, 1pcs. driveshaft is a must which is for sure next on my list.

If you need any other assistance, let me know.

After say you did the mods. I mentioned in my previous reply. Changing from a 2 pcs. driveshaft to a 1 pcs. driveshaft is a 21+ lb loss in weight

And the mods. in my signature and listed makes aprox. 550-560+ rwhp.

So trust me when I say you don't need to put the GT500 on a diet with the torque the 5.4 is making stock or with mods. Just add hp.

so basically, you have a 550-560 rwhp car that can only run 11.40s? sounds like it needs to lose a lot fo weight

How serious are you talking?

You can take out back seats
Replace drivers seat and Passenger seats with lighter dummy seats and remove all the electronical junk that moves them.
You can remove the 4 factory subwoofers and 500watt amp along with the 6cd changer audio player.
Remove the metal sheeting between trunk and backseat
Remove all interior floor coating
Remove trunk interior coating and spare tire and jack
If you're really serious you can take out windshield and windows and replace them with lighter material

All that should be good for a whole lot of lbs and a serious improvement

All that " boosted" horse power is great but If you are autocrossing or tight road course racing, more power isn't excatly the best answer. I do agree you don't need to do much for them to be quick and handle nicely. I would think dropping it a little and doing some driveline and interior weight reduction and it would be a hell of a ride.

He also wants the car to handle better, not just go in a straight line. Power isn't gonna do anything for handling, and if you don't know what you're doing it can be more difficult to handle at the limit around twisties with more power.

Matt, if you are serious, PM me once you get a GT500 and I will put you on the right path on mods needed.

Rather it be weight loss, handling, or more power, I got you.

Question

It is obvious that some of you in this thread is very unhappy

Is it due to you want a GT500 and can't get one?

Is it because your car is slower?

Is jealousy or envy causing you stress?

Why do people with slower cars call a quicker car a turd?

Why are you drgnracin72 bask a Mustang on a Mustang site and you are a moderator?

Do you guys know that the GT500 is a Mustang?

Trust me, I know the answer to all the questions asked as well as others who will view this post. Heck, I thought I was on a Chevy or Dodge website. If this is a Mustang site I can't tell. But I do see the obvious.

I guess if I now lower my self to the level of maturity I have witnessed it will be ok to do this

End result, you guys make me
