4.10 Gears Mileage and Road Racing

So I am concerned. I have driven my car for a long time, and I like my gears, but they are long stock. So I want to know, what is the differance in acceleration numbers wise between stock and 4.10 or 3.73. Also would the 4.10 be too short for a road race car? I don't know.

I had 410s done about 500 miles ago and I love them.I don't have any experience road racing but I can honestly say that the gears are one of the best mods I have done dollar for dollar. I do seem to be using more gas but I always keep the rpms around 3k for the sound and I can slide sideways in second with minimal effort.

4.10s are fords road racing gear. I have not had my car on a road course since i put the 4.10s on but i cant wait to get back to the track. You wont run a 4.10 ring out until about 185mph. I dont know what your year stang has for stock gears but i know the accelaration difference is huge from a 3.31 to a 4.10. the 05s and 06s had 3.55 and most mags said they ran 13.5. the 07 had 3.31 and most mags said they run 13.8 the 07 is also suppose to be 75plbs heavier on average. So 75 plbs and .24 higher ratio = 3/10s.... dont know? frpp said the 4.10s from 3.55 along with about 25hp in the drag pack would shave 5/10s of the 1/4. So i figure that if you figure 1/10 for 10hp you can give 3/10s credit to the gears and thats only going up .55s of a gear. That 5/10 was with stock tires.

I know i didnt really say anything you can use there but if you get a clearer answer let me know cuase i have been searching.

But like i said the 4.10s are used in road racing a lot, you will be shooting out of the turns like a rocket and will never top out in your car. so dont worry about that.

I guess what I am concerned about is getting bad mileage, or having to shift too much. But since I don't plan on going FI, I won't really have to worry about needing to shift too much. But The road noise will be aweful at 75. Its bad now and I'm only running 2000 rpm. I have a full Mac 2.5" exhaust.

Well i dont think the shift too much will be an issue to you. I get about 2 or 3 miles less to the gallon but i drive the car harder now too and thats part of that. at 75 im turning about 2600 i think so that will deffenitaley be louder for ya.

I still say get em.

I have 4.10s in my 97 GT. That is the only mod i put on my car that i actually felt a difference. i took a trip last summer and drove about 300 miles on 1 tank of gas(no city driving all highway)granted i had a huge headache when i reached my destination. I would think the 4.10s would be great for road racing. I have never been on a road course so i couldnt say for sure, but i would think you would have plenty of acceleration out of the corners with enough top end for the straights. just my opinions
