i have coilovers, and they're awesome, rids great, and if i want the ride height higher, or lower, its about a 30 minute job.
dont pay the $370 for the MM coilover kit though. i have the UPR,. and love it. i got the 12" 250# springs for street use, then i have a set of 14" springs for the track. i would highly advie you getting the whoel UPR K member kit with lower control arms, and coil over, its $700 at takes 65lbs off the front end.

It depends on what he wants to do. The UPR kit is great if you are doing drag, but for road racing \ auto cross he would want a stronger set up like griggs or MM. They are built more for the Road course than the UPR are. Also. I believe you have to have the car jacked up to raise the ride height.

look at all the guys that do road, and autocross with the stock K member, and the UPR K member is alot stronger than stock is.
UPR is a great kit, and save more weight that any other kit out there. the MM, is really not much lighter than stock, and the griggs is alot lighter than stock, but is MUCHO $$.

I wonder if the MM K member brace will mount to the UPR kit. If so, you could get the UPR kit and not have to worry about it.

no, it doesnt. with a aftermarket k member the bracing isnt needed.
braces are bandaids to the real problem, which is the poor quality K member.

MM told me that coil overs would not be that ideal for street use... I was told that they would be a little uncomfortable ... but they didn't really state why

MM says that because Front coilovers will make your ride alot more harsh than your standard springs, unless you go really soft. If you are going for drag, you only want some 200 or 250 lb/in springs. Those springs will ride smoother than your stock ones and still give much better handling. The harshness they refer to is more in referance to getting rear coil overs as well. Rear coil overs make a much larger differance in the harshness of the ride. The increase in the wheele rate makes them MUCH rougher, but much better handling on a road course, not as much on a straight track.

I probably wont do much road course if any. I do occasionally drag race. MAYBE once a month if that. I usually only go to the track if i get something new on the car, or if someone talks shit about my car on the local forums. It cant ride any worse as my car does now, my factory shocks and struts have been gone since about 1k miles after lowering my car with the H&R supersports. So that will probably be my set up coilovers up front and The supersport springs in the rear. im also looking at getting Tokico illuminas all the way around.

Your car's ride harshness now is probably due to being under dampened. The stock shocks\struts will not be able to dampen those springs very well. If you do upgrade to the illuminas. I would make sure to research the coilovers you want. They are specific to the strut which ones you get. Coilovers are a fairly large step, so make sure you do your research before switching over. They require new Caster Camber plates as well. Maximum Motorsports and Griggs racing both have awesome write ups on the subjuect.

the UPR kit is only $150, and can also be used with almost any brand strut. also with the 12" 250LBS springs, it rides great.

I just put the MM front coil overs and their front a-arms this pass week. I also have their C/C plates. Love them all. From what I have hear MM will last longer for daliy driving. They told me to run the front coil overs but not the rear because the rear will make noise on speed bumps and entering and exiting driveways. The ride is the best my car has been and handling is great. If I was you I would call both and tell them what you do with the car.
Good luck with which ever way you go. Mark 2003 Mustang GT 3.73, Kenne Bell 2.1 Intercooler @ 10lbs 90mm MAF, 75mm TB, cold air kit, switch chip. 426 rwhp, 446 rwtq in shoot out mode,MMS caster camber plates, tube front control arms coil over on front H&R in rear, Rear lower control arms and SFC Last edited by md1 : January 12th, 2008 at 07:14 PM. |
