GTO T-56 linkage

I was messing around on ebay and came across an LS-2/T-56 combo from a GTO. In the picture it showed some sort of shift linkage with the shifter on the T-56 that located the shifter farther back. I looked for pictures of Cobra T-56s, and they have the shifter bolted right on. A lot of magazine tests complain that the Mustangs shifter is too far forward, so I'm wondering if it would be possible to use the part from the GTO to move it back a bit. Anyone?

Here's a picture:

well for one, fitment issues, i may be wrong but i dont hink i am. when i pull apart my console, there is not enough room in there for you too move it back any. there is a hole in the floorboard and thats where it has to be. if you were to do it, youd have to do a lot of fabbing to make it work. i really dont thin that the shifter is that bad. if youve got a stock shifter, you need to out something else in like a steeda tri-ax and that will def make your shifts a shit ton better

Hmmm... Well, my dream project is actually a restomod 4 door fairmont futura, which doesn't have a center console, and unless I happened on one that was already a stick, I might have to fab a new hole in the floor anyway.

Okay, so I'm guessing that would be the only issue then, is the location of the hole. I did somewhere that fairmonts normally had a hole farther back than the mustangs, I don't remember though. Also I read a magazine test between the GTO and the Cobra, and they liked the feel of the shifter in the GTO better than in the Cobra, even though it's the same transmission, so maybe the GTO linkage makes a difference there too?
