Where Should I Start?

Ok, I have a 1998 GT with a manual tranny, and I wanna know wheres the best place to start to turn it into a preformace car.

Basicily I want to have a car thats going to throw my head back in the seat, so whatever is going to up my torque sounds like a good idea.

I'm really excited about FINALY having a mustang, so any sugestions to help me improve would be greatly apreciated.

well it depends what you want.
many things will throw your head back..
you can throw a low psi supercharger on there.
or full bolt on's

a good start is full exhaust possibly with long tubes at the same time
and 4.10 or 3.73 gears. and why not through in a lil Cold air intake with it

Ok, thanks...I think I'll head for the gears first, then on from there

And can anyone help me with exaust? Is it just for sound, or does it help to add preformace? and if so how much?

it does help with performance and flow. also gives your car sound trust me..if you want a car thats gonna be jolting your head back exhaust is only gonna help. it might not add A WHOLE lot...idk how much it would help a GT but it will deffinitly help and be worth it

also since u have manual..3.73's would be more ideal for you car. 4.10's will make first gear last less then 2secs....no joke

thats a good start... most of the improvment will be from the gears as u drive the car..or thats what you'll notice most when accelrating.

you can get gears with an auto or man. the gears are in the axle, not the tranny.

While you're giving yourself neck-snapping acceleration, don't forget your brakes.

That being said, gears will give you the most bang for your buck. If you have something of a commute (anything over about 10 miles), I'd go 3.73s just to knock a couple hundred rpm off of your crusing speed, else go with 4.10s. A CAI is always worth a few ponies under the hood and a bit better mileage, so you can't loose there. However, if you're planning on getting a s/c or t/c, you'll just end up ripping it off later, so keep that in mind. Also, if you're gonna boost, make sure the rest of your drivetrain is up to snuff.

And don't forget your suspension. You can have all the power in the world, but it don't do $#!* if you can't get it to the ground.

PI head swap

Get that thing going! Find some cheap 99-04 heads and intake, or make it DOHC!
