Mustang Or Something Else? nOOb Questions

Hello all!

I am considering picking up a Mustang. I am not new to cars or to modding them. Last spring i had to give up my 300+WHP Subaru (no flames please). I hated to get rid of the car, i did all the work myself and LOVED the car but the circumstances were beyond my control. Since about 2 days after it was gone i have been missing a fast car. Now a little older and perhaps a bit wiser i am shopping again for a toy.

I have modded and owned many imports but never a domestic. I think I’d like to hear that V8 sound out of my next car. I am considering a WS6, Cobra or if I can find one at a good enough price maybe a just GT.

I need some ideas of what kind of WHP I can expect VS $$$ VS reliability. My goals for the car are pretty clear I want somewhere in the high 300's to low 400's WHP. I would like to have a top speed above the 140MPH and enough brakes and handling to use the power. Is that realistic? i assume it is because i was getting a little less than that out of moderate mods on the Subaru.

Thanks in advance for your input!

~ERIC~

PS links to recommended parts suppliers would be helpful.

seems you are in the forums just look around and see what people say about them. Because its a mustang forum it will be a bit biased towards the stang but thats how it is. but good ahead and do some reading and decide for yourself

There are lots of high powered, good handling Mustangs. Parts are pretty cheap too, cheaper than Subaru parts especially.

thats what i was gonna say but i put about $7500 in the motor and driveline and got 450rwhp (mid-high 11s). so maybe that'll give you an idea on what you can get.

hope that helps

You can make that VERY easy in a mustang for that amount of money.

But you can make that VERY easy in a Trans Am as well. WS6 is a waste of money IMO. You paying for a hood and some more pretty that is about it.

Just take a look at both and see what you like more about each car. Then compare and contrast.

Also if you have ANY questions that you want to ask go right ahead we are here to help.

WELCOME TO MODDED MUSTANGS!

Thanks for all your help so far!

This is one of the most kind forums i have ever been on....so far no one has called me "rice boy" *LOL*

Well if my owning a Subaru wasn't bad enough i am sure this one will get me flamed....

What is the difference (mechanically speaking) between a Cobra and a GT. Is it JUST heads?

I have searched the net and found specs for both but aside from the trim and heads the look the same.

there is a big difference between rice and subaru, they are powerhouse machines where as ricers are crap cans and ground effects Friend had a subaru until it meet a gard rail and fell in love with it. cobra has different brakes suspension various other things to make it a nicer car but i have a gt with more mods than what i wanted to do in the first place but you keep wanting more the farther you go so have fun with what you get and find

depends on what year cobra, there's alot more different about the 03-04 than the 01. imo i'm not too crazy about the IRS on the 03-04's

here's i looked at it.......the avg price for a GT(what i paid for mine) $26k
now look at the avg price for a cobra ($35k-$36k) put that difference in to mods for the GT and it'll smoke the cobra. i know those prices were showroom sticker prices but 2-3yrs later, they'll still be comparable.

my 2cents.

ah, cobras you can get them mid 25 now a days, unless its heavily modded. but also with a gt you cant put $2000 into and get close to 500 hp. there are also a lot of differences between the ws6 t/z and reg t/a. suspension, engine, and the heed and wing, but its a better all aroudncar. you can get the gts now for aorund 20 grand, so if youve got the money, the cobra is the way to go. there are several guys out there running low 9 on there irs suspensions. you just need to beef them up.

What ever you do, if its extensive, get a GOOD tune, and it will last a long time! If not, you will blow it up in a matter of minutes..
