broken valve???

My car started to idle very rough and there is a flutter in the exhaust. So i pulled all of the plugs and found one that was smashed. I did a compression check and there is 90 lbs. of pressure. What do u guys think happened? I have an 01 mustang bullitt with 60000 miles on it. Any help is appreciated.

The only way i can think of smashing a valve is the piston hitting it... On a bone stock engine this shouldn't happen... But if your valve is smashed you would have noticed it the very instant it happened as it would do damage to a piston and you'd hear them when they collide...

I can't tell you exactly what happened... Id you have some pics i could give you a pretty good idea though.

plug could have broke. fellinto the cylinder then tried to exit thru the exhaust valve causing it to break the valve...any smoke coming out the back?
