All-electric Mustang & Shelby Cobra

The idea of an electric Pony car or Shelby Cobra may not sit well with some but California-based HST International and design firm Tjaarda have developed a pair of electric vehicles ready for sale based on the aforementioned muscle cars.
Dubbed the Tjaarda EVX Mustang and HST Shelby Cobra EVX, the two new cars will be on show this weekend at the 34th Annual Toyota GP in Long Beach, California.

I don't like the idea of having to plug it in for 8 hours every hundred miles honestly.

How often do you drive 100 miles in a day?

I'm probably the exception here, but I would LOVE an electric mustang that would go 100 miles on a charge (my commute is 8-10 miles 1 way depending on route) and go 0-60 in under 4 seconds for my daily driver.

Honestly, I'd be plugging it in about as often as I do my cell phone, and that's not THAT much of a PITA.

What I'm wondering is how much it would up your electric bill.

I just wish I could get one that wasn't all tarted up... just give me one that looks like a stock GT!

Hrm, the other article I read had the cobra version with a 200 mile range.

Of course, how much is the range effected by aggressive driving? No point to 1k lbs of torque if you have to drive it like a prius driver would

Ah i feel your pain i am 58 miles one way from my house on long island to the west part of brooklyn.. Although i make good money, a nice chunk is going to gas and i am seriously thinking about swapping jobs. 24 years times 116 miles a day = an exuberant amount of gas.

Don't make any bad blood between your employees. One angry worker can unplug your car, and you'll find yourself taking the bus for the day.

How does a car with 1,000 lb-ft of torque have such a slow 0-60 time? Am I missing something? Is that the same as saying 1,000 lb-ft of torque on a V8 gas powered engine?

For the first part, I believe that's traction-limited, not power limited.

For the second, no. A gas engine has a varying torque based on rpm; an electric motor has constant torque at all rpms.

For sheer performance, an electric motor flat destroys a gas motor.

However, you have to have the juice to power that motor (either on-board generation, batteries, or some combination of the two) which is currently much heavier than a tank of gasoline is. The other huge detriment is refill time. Currently, there's no implementation of the one technology I know of that would allow for rapid-recharging (i.e. same time or less than filling a gas tank), so you're stuck waiting 3-8 hours to recharge the car.
