Cannot Match Paint On New Bumper! Any Ideas?

Ok, my car was origoinally a 99' V6 35th anniversary edition and it has never been repainted. the factory door sticker says paint code BZ. i tell the shop this, the paint is mixed and my new cobra r urethane front bumper is painted! however it doesn't match.. my car seems to have more orange in it, while the new bumper seems to be a blank banana like yellow and although its not a HUGE difference it pisses me off. a friend told me that there are 4 different shades of the BZ "chrome yellow" color, in differnt parts of the country, is this true?? if anyone knows anything I could do please let me know asap because I want to get this done right! if i bring it into a cerrtain shop that will computer match the color for me would that benefit me? or would they just give me the BZ paint tag? any help would be appreciated, thanks!!

To tell you the truth its the fact that its polyurethane! You have to get a good body man to match up paint, and even then they cant get an exact match.

Sounds to me like you got the wrong paint. If it's that big of a difference, i would go back to the paint store and let them know!

The thing is your almost 8 year old pain is oxidized and thus is not the same shade as it was when you bought the car...

That seems to be the issue from my point of view...

i guess in this pic you cannot really tell unless you look closley.. but you can see that the bumper is more plain banana yellow and my car paint is more orange in it. i seriously doubt its my car paint that's faded because i baby my paintjob i dont even take it out if its raining! i was just wondering if you guys had a list of paintcodes or something, i couldn't find any i just know that my code is BZ (chrome yellow) and thats the paint that was mixed is there any other code that would be better for me or should i take it to the dealership or what

I can see a tiny bit of difference, but I can't honestly comment on if it is the lighting around the pic or something else...

What I >CAN< say though, is that car looks fantastic...

I will start by saying that I am a journeyman level auto painter so I do know a thing or two about bad/good paint jobs... though by no means am I a know it all...lol. Anyways, I can definitely tell a difference between the bumper and the car. First thing is no matter what it is that you are painting if you are panel matching it is just about always noticeable. Even if you spend half a day tinting it will rarely look right. That is why generally we like to blend as much as possible. If you were to pay a few extra dollars to have your fenders blended I think you would be much happier but even then the color I think does need to be tinted a bit. And as far as "computer" matching does not guarantee you a perfect match. We have a special camera ( $15,000 acquire Rx) at work and sometimes its pretty close but usually it only gets you in the ballpark and tinting is needed. I think if you have the tech add a few drops of orange and blend the fenders you would be happy with it. But for what its worth I have seen way worse color matching...lol.. good luck!!

lol there is a big diffence in the bumper and fenders when they painted the bumpers did they have the car aswell? i know the newer programs can take into acount some oxidation id say take it back to the place that painted it and have them fix it its not right but it could be fixed to wear its not as noticable. a good painter should be able to get it close. as far as the differnt shades it all depends on the batch it was painted with every time you mix paint it will come out slightly differnt no matter what ya do it may not be noticable but it will be differnt

JUST GET THE WHOLE FREAK'N CAR REPAINTED!!!! WHAT DO YOU EXPECT!?? YOU CAN'T JUST HAVE THE FRONT BUMPER PAINTED AND EXPECT TO MATCH IT UP WITH ALL THE BODY PARTS THAT WAS PAINTED ABOUT 7 YEARS AGO WHEN THAT CAR WAS PAINTED FROM THE FACTORY!

MY CAR IS BLACK AND I AM GETTING MY FRONT BUMPER AND OTHER BOPDY PARTS OF MY STANG PAINTED SO I AM GETTING MY WHOLE CAR PAINTED BLACK!!!

ANYWAYS BACK TO YOU, IF YOU WANT IT ALL TO MATCH THEN YOU HAVE TO GET THE WHOLE CAR PAINTED YELLOW OR WHATEVER PAINT YOU WANT IT TO BE, THEN IT WILL MATCH

first off- the sun fades all paint jobs and depending on how you store your car is also very important....waxing is also an issue...there are several things you could have done....one is when ever you paint a "section" of a car you must blend into the next panel so the paints match as much as possible....in your case you would have been fucked since the color never matched right in the first place....the second thing I recommend you do is to go to a auto paint store and have them spector analize your paint color...its a machine that analizes exactly what colors are in your paint.....
this is the only true way to find out ..... test panels are ok but not the best way to go......oh by the way I'm an ex body tech......good luck....later

tahts what i ended up doing.. i paint shop used some high tech camera which printed out a paint code and they mixed it for me. it's still OFF but you cannot tell in direct sunlight or unless you really look closely. also i have to get it stripped, primed and resprayed and clearcoted about every 2 months. I've yet to find a good way to secure the flimsy ass poly urethane so that it wont ratlle in the wind resistance... the paint starts peeling from the stress

urethane bumpers often don't match from the factory. From the picture it looks as though the bumper is "dirtier" than the factory paint. This could be from off color, not enough paint on the bumper to cover(yellow is notorious for poor hiding). Photospectrometers are only as good as the database inside them so I always depend on a "hand" match. I have sprayed a whole front clip before, all at the same time and still the bumper looked different. I'd have a sprayout card done to full coverage and compare it to both paint jobs to see if you have an off color mix or lack of coverage. irgoatmike

any REAL painter would have known that paint fades and he would have taken a piece off your car (ie: fuel door) to match the paint properly.

my hood was red and my bumper was unpainted ... looks like it matches to me...
