Difference In 96 Block And A 04 Block?


is there any difference in a bare block out of a 96 gt and a 04 gt?

Nothing that I know of, maybe something small like a timing cover bolt or something but fundamentally they should be identical and are certainly interchangeable.

The 96-98 blocks have less dish in the pistons, how much, I don't know. Because the chamber of the PI heads are smaller, Ford went with a larget dish in the 99+ motors. I know that PI heads on a 99+ motor yields about 9.5:1 while the same heads on a 96-98 motor yields about 10.5:1 compression. Plus, some blocks are Windsor and some are Romeo castings. They are minimal and should not affect anything, excet maybe the bolt pattern for the driveplate.
