Leaking rear
My buddy and I replaced my shocks and struts yesterday, and when I went out to the driveway this afternoon I saw a puddle sitting under my rear. I stuck my finger in it to see what it was and yup, gear oil. I guess my buddy wasn't paying close attention when he slid the jack under the diff to lift the car and it looks like he bent the cover back a little. Anyone have any idea how much the covers and gaskets run, and how much of a pain it is to replace it? Its an 01 GT with the T-45. Thanks,
Shawn |

Shouldn't be to hard to replace. Remove bolts, drain fluid, remove old cover, remove gasket & sealant, clean area, put gasket on with sealant, then put new cover on

yea it's a pretty simple sway man.
even easier; if not too much fluid was lost just clean it up real well wear it is leaking and put some high temp rtv on it.

I did the same thing. Take the cover off and let all of the oil drain out of the diff. While that is going on clean off the cover with brake cleaner and I mean get it spotless and let dry. Take a pair of vice grips and bend that cover back to where it should be. Get oil for the rearend, there is also another fluid that you need as well, and liquid gasket to get that seal for when you put the cover back on (the diff cover doesn't use a regular gasket). Clean off the diff with brake cleaner and make sure that where the girdle touches has absolutely no oil on it whatsoever. Put the liquid gasket on the cover and bolt that sucker back on. On the front end of the diff, driver's side there is a plug that you need to take off. Then from there put the oil and rear end fluid in that hole. Plug it back up and you should be leak free.
If there is no way for you to bend it back into place then buy the girdle I'm just trying to save you some money.

The "other Fluid" you need is called Friction Modifier and you can get a bottle for about 7 bucks from your ford dealer. It's a small white bottle.
BTW don't open it until your ready to use it and don't leave it in your car. IT STANK!!!!!!

Wear gloves, That shit well smell up your hands for days. I use a block of wood, hammer and anvil (or any hard flat metal surface.) Lay the cover flat on the metal surface where the bend is (with the outside facing you). Put the block of wood on the bent metal and hammer back to true. Now you may notice some of the lip has "rolled over", Just use a drift or punch while still on that flat surface to return to the original shape. Use super black or super grey gasket maker on this to ensure a long lasting seal. Also make sure both mating surfaces are super clean (make sure no oil is present or it will leak again). Hope this helps you.
