i would always go with an x pipe because the design helps with scavenging on n/a motors which leads to an increase in hp (all be it a slight increase but an increas non the less) and helps the car breath better then an ancient h pipe will.

well i guess if you are more concerned with sound then performance then an h pipe is what you want.

The performance diff is so minimal between H and X that you should just get what you think sounds best.

My current setup, on the Cobra, is the factory h going to flowmaster catback. I love the sound. I do not want my car to be crazy loud.

My view on sounds are:
Hpipe give you the "typical" mustang growl. Low and deep.
Xpipe gives you more of an exotic sound. Some refer to it as a raspy sound. I don't like the term raspy because to me that implies nasty.

I like both.

Now for some actually "useful" information
99/01 Exhaust Compilation Thread - SVTPerformance
Click on that link. It is a compilation fo exhaust sounds. Now keep in mind these are all on 4 valve cars, but it will give you an idea.

Damn dude, go with what you like or what fits your budget. It really isn't which one is the best since everyone has opinions. Just don't go with some back yard crap company and it will be fine. You will like no matter what since it is a big change from the stockers.

I already do that. Actually pretty profitable if you are in the right area. For instance, Saturday I made a couple hundred dollars and got a great meal at a wonderful restuarant just for being arm candy for an older widow.

I think there is a compilation of people's sound clips on this forum somewhere. I though I found it buried away somewhere but I could be wrong. Anybody else ever seen this?

I'm buying used BBK Longtube headers and BBK O/R X-pipe off of a guy I know. I have cat-back flowmaster exhaust on now. Anyone have any sound clips? I want that deep throaty sound and not the raspy or "exotic" sound, but for $400 bucks for both I guess I cannot complain. Would like to know what it sounds like though.

On a GT, not a Cobra. But here's a short clip.

Pacesetter LT's & o/r X pipe. Flowmaster 40's dumped. I have sence put a Flowmaster American Thunder cat back on it.

If you don't want rasp, you'd better ditch that X pipe.

It is already a lot louder then GT's with cat-back exhaust. IMO, I think that the 4v can have a little more growl. Not that I havent heard some good 2v.

Hey what up Fluff. Remember you telling me about PSR in Phoenix? Well I met the owner and he is the one that has been hookin it up. Really cool guy. They are having a Grand Re-opening on May 16. You should go. They are doing all kinds of events. Car show, Food and Drinks, Raffles Prizes, 2 dyno pulls for $35 bucks. Would be cool if I seen ya out there.
