one is shaped like this "X" and one is shaped like this "H"

the x pipe is raspier than the H, but the H has more of a deeper sound to it.. i personally like x pipes on modular engines, and
H pipes on 5.0's

It's the shape of the piping. Like previously mentioned, X pipes are usually a bit more raspier than the deeper H pipe. Both of them sound good in my eyes, though.

im not sure this is true. i have been told a h pipe will work up to a certain rpm then the exhaust will just by pass the crossover tube. but on the other hand all the the exhaust on an x pipe is forsed through the x on the pipe.

on the other hand i had an o/r h-pipe and flows on my 01 gt and got compliments all the time. It was however very loud at wot cause my friends could hear it over a mile away.

I got a mac H pipe O/R in my 1991 gt and a BBK X pipe on my 1995 cobra, to be honest l Like way much better the X pipe,I even swap it one time to my fox just to tested and feels more power, at idle is not as loud like the h pipe, but at cruising or open throtle sound real good, soon I wil get a X pipe for my fox with some magnaflow(magnapack muflers)BTW the x pipe sound better with a no chambered mufler like magnaflows.

From what I understand, in conjunction with the other posts, you should use an H pipe when you have offset inlet/outlet muffler and an X pipe when you have an inline inlet/outlet muffler. It adds to the flow. I have an o/r H ready to go on! Can't wait.
