Best battery found retail?

So I turn 21 on 9/26 and I'm taking a road trip back to my home state.

Of course today my car is really struggling to start like the battery is out of juice.

Without the car running the battery meter is just before the "O" in NORMAL on the gauge. When my alt died in the 98GT the gauge was pretty low even when driving, but this time it reads much higher when the car is running. So I dont think its the alternator this time.

Sounds to me like I'm up for a new battery. I was really hoping to order something light but being that I need this here tomorrow before my trip I'll have to go buy something.

What is the best battery to be found locally? Autozone, Walmart, Murrays? Any ideas?

If you can't afford an optima, just get whatever has the same terminal style, fits in your tiedowns, and has the most CCAs you can find.

how good are those "light wieght racing batteries"? ive seen them in jegs catalogs

They're great, so long as you know and understand what you're getting. You're giving up cranking power and overal amperage for weight reduction. If you leave your lights on you *will* kill the battery, and when it gets cold, you'll probably start getting some starting issues.

The one I was looking at had 800cca. My current heavy battery has the same rating.... Perhaps thats why the 5lb battery was almost $200?
