351 motor swap

So, since I need to get a new block and build a new motor anyway here. I have been looking at all kinds of stuff and one of the things that has caught my eye is getting a 351 and dropping that in. I know I would need new mounts, exhaust and that stuff. But I was wondering how much effort it really is. All of the american Iron guys switch to those motors anyway, so I was curious how hard it might be to do. Also, parts are a little cheaper than some of the alternatives.

The 351 is a great motor and ALOT ALOT ALOT cheaper to build to 600hp than a modular motor. The only concern I would have is the emissions. In NC any car 1996 and newer is required to have an OBDII inspection. I don't know how you would connect the components of a 351 to the mustang computer system or wire harness but i'm sure there is a way.

BTW most 1995 Ford econoline vans come witha 351 roller motor. I've got the shortblock from one in storage. I wonder if it's possible to swap the computer from that model and get it tuned.....

Stay away from the 351's used in some 1994 trucks. They were built to metric specs, and the parts are expensive and hard to find. The original engine in my Bronco was a metric 5.8 roller. There's a marine 5.8 in there now. Yeah...a boat motor.

I'd look at the Saleen S351s and the SN95 Cobra Rs to see exactly what you need.
