Fuel Pump Issues

I installed a SVT Focus 255 pump in my 2000 GT for the s/c install. I noticed on Friday night that I was at about 1/4 tank or a little less. I know that the pump would suck the tank dry pretty quick at WOT when less than a 1/4 tank, so I try to keep it closer to the 1/2 - full mark. Anyway, I filled up and the gas pump read 15.1 gallons. My gauge had me at just less than 1/4.

Then yesterday, I drove about 115 miles and the gauge barely moved down off of full.

I am wondering from those of you who have installed this pump, have you seen a difference in the gauge or does it work the exact same as the stock pump? Could there be a problem with my float? I would think that the float should accurately measure the amount of fuel in there unless there is something holding it up, but then it wouldn't move. I know it was not caught on something. Is it just the way that the position of the pump is? I am kinda dumbfounded and don't really want to drop the tank again to check it out. But 15 gals is a bit much to be putting in and a definitely way to low to let the tank go. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Edit: could it possibly be that I am getting so much better gas mileage with the tune? I dont think so, but cant rule it out.

I thought about that, but when I filled up the tank and it said 15 gals, my eyes nearly popped out of my head cause usually when I fill her up at that level, its around 12-13. Our tanks are just over 15 gals so it was making me nervous.

Could I have installed the pump in an awkward direction that the float maybe is hitting or resting on the basket?

I would say thats possible...

I believe the GT fuel tank is 15.47 gallons...So you were almost empty...

Thats what really bothers me. I was to close to being completely empty.
Thanks Chris.

Has anyone else who installed this pump have any issues like this?

I may have to drop it and rearrange the pump.

Yea I cant imagine I am getting that great gas mileage.

Just wondering if there was any one else who had this issue and if they found a fix.

Sometimes the float can be bent when installing the new pumps. You need to be very careful when messing with the float assembly. Resetting the trip odometer is a great way to keep tabs on how much gas you have. Fill up at the # miles you normally do. It acts like a second gas gauge.

Yea I am doing that as well. I dont want to bend the float at all, just see if it is hanging up on something or if it isnt going all the way down.
