How to figure out compression...
ok this is the formula for finding out your compression ratio in your mustang if you dont know what it is. If your doin a build on your own and your doin boost you will want to do a lower compression such as 8.5:1 and if your doin a all motor build with nitrous personally i wouldnt go anything over 10:1 but that 1 is up to you.
If your doin a all motor build if you go anything over 12:1 you have 2 run a higher octane than 93 if you want it 2 run right. Just thought this could help some people out. Bore X Bore X .7854 X stroke= Cylinder Volume V1 Bore X Bore X .7854 X Deck Height= Deck Clearance Volume V2 Bore X Bore X .7854 X Head Gasket Thickness= Gasket Opening Volume V3 Comustion Chamber Volume in CC's(cubic centimeters) To Convert CC's to Cubic inches, Multiply CC's by .06102 CC's X .06102= V4 V1+V2+V3+V4 = COMPRESSION RATIO V2+V3+V4 REP IS ALWAYS WELCOMED

I'll say it again. It's still missing one important factor, piston head volume.

This is for static CR. There is also dynamic CR which is more useful.
Here is a calculator that factors for cam timing. You can run higher compression ratios if the cam has the proper overlap to bleed off enough compression. United Engine and Machine Co. |
