Yeah, the silver metal bars are the fuel rails and NO you do not need to remove them to install the GMS coil on plugs. All you need to do is unbolt on each coil pack (8mm i think) on all 8 cylinders and thats it. They are springs and eaisly bend right out, they're very flexible. It's about a 20 minute job, extremely simple! This would be a good time to change the plugs too, since you have a blower in your plans.. while you have them out.
Good luck! |

Thanks, I figured the silver bar had to do with the fuel system. Since there's a blower in the plan what's the consensus on replacement plugs? Iridium?
I'm trying to take a comprehensive approach to something I'm none too familiar with. I'm a systems analyst; not an engineer by training, but I've wrenched a lot of cars, motorcycles, and bicycles. Technology in this area has passed me by. I'm not planning on anything radical, no huge Roots type supercharger. Paxton, Vortech come to mind, but I am interested in learning more about the SPAL blowers: www.spalusa.com. To tell you the plain truth I'm disappointed in the appearance of the COP configuration. I am aware of the advantages, but there's a lot to be said for the eye appeal of a really nice set of plug wires. Optimal efficiency is the object, while added RWHP is a logical outcome. I am going to be commuting in this car, two to three days a week. I plan on tinkering with it for the next twenty years or so, until I'm all done. I forgot to add the 2,200.00 Ford Racing engine kit to my little wish list, the one with the Cobra intake - and now I'm thinking this may not be compatible with the COP... I just don't know yet. My in-laws are all second generation NHRA folks. One of my brother-in-laws runs a fabrication shop that's in all the usual rod magazines, and they’ve all built and own rods. I want to do this myself, and find help within the Mustang modding community as I go. This is one of those life long dreams whose time has come. Anyhow, keeping all that in mind - what's the buzz on plugs? A high end COP upgrade can run 500 + but my understanding is that the platinum OEM plugs are pretty good. |
