Never seen a fastback II? All Cobra II's and King Cobras were fastbacks (well, hatchbacks, but you know...)

No sweat, man. I know a few people have considered the 4.0 from the Ranger/Aerostar/Explorer for a V6 upgrade. They have the same bellhousing pattern, and will bolt in where a 2.8 used to sit fairly easily. I think the hardest part is wiring the ignition...

haha its ok, im sure you will get alot more threads up in there.....................

this is the only site that doesnt really have a lot of people with II`s, im only here to branch out a little for anyone who needs help but starts here

do you think the "4.0" v6 is any better then the "3.8"?, or do you think ford just did that to make it new and exciting?

but for real, i do like my moms 05 alot, so im not one to talk.

not saying its by any means a challenge for me!!!, just letting you know that its more luxuries.......

The 4.0 is basically the top of the line for the Cologne V6. Not a LOT in common with the 2.8, but based on the same design. Started out in the Ranger/Explorer line about 90 or 91.

The 3.8 is basically a 5.0 with two cylinders lopped off it. Completely different animal.

Is the Mustang 4.0 based on the OHV version or the OHC? If its the OHC, then yeah, they've got a bit more "balls" than the older ones...

The other day, I was following a guy in a current-model V6 Stang that had definitely been a bit modded. Sounded VERY healthy. Almost as nice as what my old Bronco II 2.8 sounded like pegging 7500 RPM (It was not even CLOSE to stock, pushing a bit north of 200 hp)

Talking

Have you got a clip with the deeper tone?

That sounded a bit "raspier" than I prefer, but yeah, for a six, they DO sound good.

I think you need some lower gears, though. Nice thing about the Bronco II was 2wd low range. 31" tires, 4.10 locked (well, it had a Trak/Lok that had enough extra shims that it might as well have been spooled),2.48:1 low range, and I was pulling wheelies in any of the first three gears just by side-stepping the clutch at 3K. And that was AFTER it cleared almost 15" of suspension travel.

I was running a heavily modded 2.8 with shorty headers, dual 2" stainless pipes, dual highflow cats, and $36 each glasspacks. The sound at 6k+ was reminiscent of a P51 beginning a strafing run, and heard clearly over traffic at two blocks

and i think the raspyness is because of the x pipe that came with the kit, but overall i'm happy with the sound
wish i could get the rattle at 2k rpms gone though, ive welded practically everything! and it wont go away

If you can afford it, try a slightly smaller diameter set of pipes. Not a lot smaller, just enough to increase the flow rate slightly.

Should give it a slightly smoother rumble, and may get rid of the rattle as well.
